Graffiti: At the Beach 6

Overview

GRAFFITI - AT THE BEACH 6 is the sixth in a series of photo books featuring graffiti on the walls at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. These photos show an often changing statement by artists, in which they add letters, names, words, pictures, and messages. These images may last for days, even months, until torn down by passing park rangers or another artist. They are like an anthropological record of the artists whose art work was on display when I took the photos.

These images may last for days, even months, until torn down by passing park rangers or another artist. They are like an anthropological record of the artists whose art work was on display when I took the photos.

I first put the photos in this book in a 3 1/2 minute video featuring the images flipping by one at a time and set to music. Now I have put these images into a book. This book features the images taken in two hours one late afternoon after a sandcastle event on the beach in October 2013. It includes 70 photos, and eventually all of these books will be combined into a single book with about 200 images.
In this book, the images are organized into these key categories:
• Beach Birds
• Dead Cats
• Here's Looking at You
• It's a Scrawl
• Say, What?
• Big Words
• Get the Message
• Remember My Name
• A Rainbow of Colors
• Splash!
• Erased
