    full of mistakes and inconsistencies

One of the benefits, theoretically, of public education is that books like these are filtered out by a few people working for the school system and kept away from children who would only be confused by them. One of the drawbacks of homeschooling is every parent has to sort through all kinds of nonsense like this for him or herself. It's unfortunate the editors did not take their job more seriously. The first chapter alone is full of poor instructions, inconsistencies and errors. It was only by peeking at the answers (which are also inconsistent and erroneous) that I was able to piece together what the intent of the excercises was.

    Awesome book on this topic!

I'm a homeschooling mom using a very good, popular grammar series which parses sentences into parts of speech and identifies sentence patterns but does not teach diagramming. This book has helped augment what we're teaching. The contents are detailed yet written in an easy to understand way - even for parents who've forgotten a lot! There are several chapters detailing how parts of speech or sentence structures are diagrammed and explanations with each. Each chapter has a review test and the answers are in the back. One of the things I liked is that the author discusses sentence patterns which help children determine how sentences should be diagrammed. Sentence patterns in conjunction with parts of speech make diagramming a snap! This book can be a tool for parents to help their children or can be used by older children independently.
