All Music Guide - John Bush
Pop fans eager to have their own Grammy awards ceremony can compare and contrast the best of 2003 -- or at least, the most nominated -- with this 19-track collection. The combined licensing might of Universal, Sony, and Warner provided Grammy Recordings with plenty of the names necessary for a year-end roundup. Of course, this isn't the type of compilation that hangs together well; given the vagaries of the music business circa the early 2000s and the generalized awards covered here, the collection takes in Record of the Year finalists Vanessa Carlton "A Thousand Miles", Norah Jones "Don't Know Why", Nickelback "How You Remind Me", Dixie Chicks "Landslide", and Eminem "Without Me", all heard one after another. The nominees for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance reveal how meaningless the term "pop" has become; Jones, a postmodern cocktail singer, appears side-by-side with the rootsy Sheryl Crow, the clubbed-up Pink, and the painfully poppy Britney Spears. Meanwhile, the male side finds veterans Sting and James Taylor competing against a pair of newcomers Craig David and John Mayer who share little more than an earnest style of singing. Outside the television-advertised, dreadfully overpriced pop compilations, Grammy Nominees 2003 is a great way for anyone feeling lost amidst an unfamiliar music scene to decide for themselves exactly what's special about the year's biggest sellers -- from Nelly to Bowling for Soup, or Nickelback to Craig David.

    It's still great in 2004!

This is a GREAT cd and is still a number one in 2004! I really love the songs by Avril Lavinge, Michelle Branch, Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, Pink, Nickelback, and Sheryl Crow. The olny disapointing songs where by Nelly, Eminem, Craig David, and James Taylor.............but some of you might love those songs! This is my number one cd and think you should buy it right away!

truly the buy of the year!

if you only buy one cd this year, make it this one! all of the singers shine, and that makes it a perfect cd for anyone!! it even has a wide range of musical yaste. for example, you can like rap (eminem) or the soothing, melodic voice of norah jones, or the punk-fun of PINK, or the country sound of the dixie chicks!! there are many many other reasons to love this cd, but you will have to buy it to see for yourself!!

    Amazing nominees!!

This is an amazing collection of all the nominees. I think the nominees for the grammy's is finall getting good and they're getting over all the "teeny-pop" out there. The best nominee and song on the cd, is "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne. She has come a long way in such a short time and she deserves it!! she's real! I also like that good artists like Vanessa Carlton, Norah Jones, Nickelback, Michelle Branch, John Mayer, Sting and Dave Matthews Band. The only thing that holds this cd from 5 stars is that Britney Spears and Nsync is on it. without those 2, it would be a perfect 5 star cd that i would recommend. I still recommend this anyways, it is significant!
