PreS-Gr 3 Apricot and brown drawings illustrate this realistic story of age and infirmity. Grandma, confined to a hospital bed in her home, welcomes her daughter and grandson, the narrator, who have come for a visit. Josh matter-of-factly tells about Grandma's care: the throw-away diapers that she must wear; the bathroom smell of the room; the visiting therapist; and even the time Grandpa, in frustration, hollered at Grandma. His mother assures Josh that they love each other very much, which Josh sees when Grandpa nibbles Grandma's ear while rubbing her back at bedtime. Of course, Josh gets to test drive the motorized bed while Grandma is in her wheelchair for a brief time. Gentle understanding and steadfast love fill this brief story, which is as useful for children who don't have aging relatives as for those who do. Virginia Opocensky, Lincoln City Libs . , Neb.
