Overview

Grandma's house was a magical place and Donald Davis brings the magic back in vibrant detail. Even if Grandpa did live there, it was always Grandma's house. In this recording, Davis makes it possible for each of us to go back to Grandma's kitchen, her clutter room, living room, and to that immeasurable bed in which we burrowed so happily. The antics with the cousins, the imaginative games that went awry, the animals and the house itself all come back to the listener as Davis ...

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Gr 4-8-Award-winning storyteller Donald Davis entertains by effectively recounting two stories about siblings. The first involves typical boy-girl rivalry of 8-year-olds, and the importance of thinking. The second tells of brothers' attempts to be treated fairly by a greedy king. Will Jack get even? Despite a very realistic Southern mountain accent with drawn-out syllables, Davis' speech is easy to understand due to his distinct enunciation. He clearly presents all of the emotions of the characters from his speech alone, and knows just how much exaggeration to use to draw listeners in to make the story believable. His speed varies: fast for an exciting part, and slow when suspense is called for. Although most is narration, he realistically changes voice for quoted dialogue and presents taunting singing of the children. Purchase for storytelling collections.-Claudia Moore. W.T. Rekindle memories of your Grandma

Davis tells stories that will remind you of days spent in your grandma's kitchen, in her yard, and rummaging through her garage. Everyone I've shared it with has had the same warm reaction.
