Children's LiteratureWouldn't every kid like to have a grandfather like this one? He is really a big overgrown kid who enjoys all the activities that his grandson engages in. For this sleepover they fight off invading aliens, pretend they are pirates and cook up several batches of treats-"fudge brownies for breakfast, chocolate-chip cake for lunch and chocolate candy drops for dinner." These two really love chocolate. The day progresses with more pretend games-making their own movie, creating a circus and joining in with a tap and boogie routine. By the time the day ends, grandpa, his grandson and readers are exhausted and ready for a refreshing night's sleep. Cartoon-style illustrations look like cut-paper collage. A good selection for grandfather's day since this one seems to be able to manage it all on his own. 2002, Grosset & Dunlop/Penguin Putnman, Ages 4 to 8.
