This was my first foray into World War 1 fiction and I selected the book because its Title and reputation as a respectable classic is legendary. Overall it was an engaging book and I thought the author's battle descriptions (the shelling) where captivating and shocking. I can say that I could visualize being among the characters experiencing the events as they were written. The story follows 1 American nicknamed Kentucky and 3 Englishmen whose company is being moved to the war's front lines. It's their first real engagement and the 4 agree to watch each other's backs (you can see where this is going). The book then follows their situations to a heart-felt, remorseful conclusion. My big snub on this book is that the events of the 4 people are very unbalanced. In fact 2 of them are forgotten early in the story while the other 2 are followed through the entire journey. You find out what happened to each of them at the end over a couple short sentences. The result for me was disappointment that more of their situations were not elaborated in the story's body.

Matty) padded in, unaware of what had been happening until she saw Charred running away. She knew something happened, so she ran to where Charred ran away from. She gasped and ran over to Arcticblaze. She knew he needed help. (This the right place?)
