Children's Literature - Joyce RiceGrasshoppers are active during the day because they need to be warm to move, jump and fly. Both adult and baby grasshoppers eat a large variety of plants. The reader will learn about the scientific family of the grasshopper, its habitat, life span, and music. Part of the "Smart Apple Bugs" series, this is a visual treat. Additional resources are included in the form of an index and references for additional reading, web pages and museums. This is an excellent source for the middle school student looking for information on the specific subject. However, the inclusion of technical language such as class and order names will make it difficult for older elementary students who will be attracted to its abbreviated 32-page length. Middle school classroom teachers will find this a good resource for a unit on insects.
