In the mid 80's I was introduced to a man who would eventually be a major player in my journey into the study of spirituality. That man was Brother David Steindl-Rast. A thin, bearded Benedictine Monk from A New York State Monastery who now spent most of his comtemplative life high above the sea at the Hermitage Monastery in Big Sur,California and frequently taught at the Esalen Institute. In this place Brother David introduced me to ascaeticism and comtemplation and changed my life forever. Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer: An Approach to Life in Fullness, tells how this is possible. Whether Christian, Jew, Agnostic, Atheist, read this book. The keys to personal contentment are written between the covers of this most inspirational book.
