The Inferno has Evolved...
Lana Harvey is a reaper, and a lousy one at that. She resides in Limbo City, the modern capital of the collective afterlives, where she likes to stick it to the man (the legendary Grim Reaper himself) by harvesting the bare minimum of souls required of her. Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olso

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

We have an Event planned with Angela in April through Book Monster Promotions, so I decided to give the book a shot so we'd have a review to go along with the post. While I figured I had nothing to lose going in for the read, my immediate reaction upon finishing the book was quite different, all I could say was "Ooh I love it when review books turn into new obsessions! I LOVED this book and cannot wait to read more. Way to go Angela!" :)

Our heroine, Lana, is a reaper employed by an organization owned and run by Grim (yeah that Grim). She's sort of a slacker, doing her job but not much more, and just trying to stay off of the big guys' radar. One of her closest friends, however, Josie, is an incredibly ethical reaper, following all of the rules to the letter. The two own a ship together (the only way to drop their souls off above and below as determined, is to sail across a sea in Limbo), and sometimes their relationship can get a little strained, especially when odd things start happening in Limbo and nobody knows quite why. Add in one of their other closest friends, the hot mess of an archangel Gabriel, and you have a very interesting group. :)

If you're a Urban Fantasy reader like me who loves a variety of supe groups in your books, you will adore this series. It has Reapers, Spirits, creatures from Mythology, Demons, Angels, and more, and all of it is blended seamlessly into an endlessly entertaining (and surprisingly accurate) pastiche. I laughed out loud, I swore under my breath, I cheered on our kick butt heroine, I cringed when things went bad, it was fabulous, and having just done a bunch of online research on the classifications of angels and demons for something else, I was very pleased to see the amount of research that went into the creation of this book, without it taking anything away from the lightheartedness of the story.

There's not a lot of romance in here, but it's a Urban Fantasy Mystery that will keep you turning pages late into the night and wishing you could call in sick to work the next day. Angela Roquet quickly became one of my new favorite UF authors and I am jumping into book two immediately.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Graveyard Shift 5 Skulls and emphatically recommends it!

    A whole new paranormal world

Quirky and different. Lots of action and a new take on the afterlife...that is not so peaceful.

Amazingly creative outlook! Props to Roquet!

An excellent novel full of adventure, new ideas, and, of course, a dash of romance. I cannot wait for the next novel. If you are open about religion, think killing soul pirates on the sea of souls is cool, or just plain like reading fiction, I recommend this book to you.

    Love finding new authors

I love finding new authors. This one was free when I picked it up and now the others in the series will be making their way in to my wish list. There was enough laughter and "romance" to keep it interesting. Also plenty of questions. I loved all the quotes and references to anchient gods. Very well done.

Great Start To A New Series!

*Review copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review

Lana Harvey is a Grim Reaper, as far as Grim Reapers go she is an 8th generation and relatively young. Lana isn't your typical by the book Reaper like her friend Josie, instead she likes to find the loopholes and exploit them a little. She's not afraid to twist the rules slightly to get a better outcome. When she receives an unexpected promotion from her boss, Grim, she is pulled deeper into the politics involved in reaping and thus a story of intrigue, deception and mystery is born. Just who is behind everything and who can she trust? The lines are becoming blurry and not everyone is as it seems at first glance...

When you hear the words Grim Reaper you usually have a very definite picture in mind, stereotypical yes, but true nonetheless. Lana on the other hand is a very different type of reaper and I am glad of that! Angela has created an interesting world for her reapers to live in, there are so many good points about this book. I loved the different myth's and mythologies incorporated into the book, the many different 'heavens' or final resting places based on the soul's belief's. The hell hounds were a bright spot too. I did find it a little slow in the beginning but I definitely think it was worth sticking with, it really picked up towards the end and I am looking forward to seeing what trouble Lana can get into next!

    Meh

230 Nook pages. This book had a little too much shopping and wardrobe descriptions and not enough grown-up emotions for my taste. I absolutely hated the way (no spoilers) one character switched from loathing to loving another character in the span of a few days--yuck! That said, I would recommend this book to YA fans and/or those looking for a fun, light urban fantasy read. This book was free and the 2 other books I saw were like $3 each.

Wonderful twist on a fantasy subject

I was impressed with this story from the beginning. It's fun to have these deities and characters play major roles rather than just supporting humans.

The theme and plot are fun.  Nice fun breezy style and characters you care about.  Cons: proofreading is awful--many typos (darn spelcheckers) and, in a few places, grammatical errors.  Very distracting! needs a better editor!

Recommended to readers wanting a twist on how we view the afterlife and a spunky protagonist to boot -- I'm looking forward to reading the next and future installments of this series!
