Experience the suspense of searching for a missing pilot and his plane in the vast Alaskan wilderness. Relate to the heartache of a missing loved one. Learn appreciation for life within grief and uncertainty and how goodbyes lead to new hellos.
On October 9, 1992, Tim Young piloted his Aeronca Champ from North Pole, Alaska on a routine course to Homer. Former Alaska resident, Cynthia Young Fackrell watched her brother’s plane depart, not knowing it would be the last time she saw him. After years of grief and processing, she has written a book about the mysteries surrounding his disappearance and the hope that is available to those suffering through such a tragedy. Punctuated with prophetic journal entries from her brother and investigative logs from her determined father, this story illustrates a family’s desperate search for a beloved brother and son.
This book was extremely therapeutic. The author poured her heart and tears into telling the story of her brother and family. She hopes it will shed light on her brother’s accident and bring hope to those suffering through grief. It is written to touch hearts and bring joy into lives.

Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite Gravity’s Embrace: A True, Unsolved Mystery Surrounding an Alaskan Pilot by Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Young Fackrell is a true story about her younger brother, Timothy Young, a 32-year-old pilot who’s missing for 10 months after a visit with her family at their home on Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. He was flying his own plane from the North Pole to Homer on October 9, 1992, and disappeared en route. Journal entries of Tim and Cynthia’s father are included, giving more perspectives for this autobiography. I find Gravity’s Embrace a fascinating yet heartbreaking read. Cynthia’s skill as a writer heightens the emotional roller coaster that her family had to endure while searching for Tim to a great extent. The subject matter can be hard to digest, and the question “How can a person disappear just like that?” often arises in my head.  This autobiography also chronicles the family background, particularly Tim’s, and as a reader I feel connected to him. Conversely, in Cynthia’s own words, “Tim was a quiet person by nature. I never really knew what he was thinking. Once in a while he would grace me with a few of his thoughts, but mostly kept them to himself.” Tim’s journal entries contain great personal insight about the man. Cynthia also encodes a powerful message to anyone who ever lost their loved ones in life: find the strength to carry on. There are some questions still left unanswered, nevertheless Gravity’s Embrace is insightful, engrossing and poignant.

A well crafter story using a combination of the author's story, her late father's search diary and her missing brother's prophetic journal from the past. Her ability to intertwine these three sources, as well as a treasure trove of black and white photos and newspaper clippings gives the reader strong insight into the highs and lows that this family experienced. A Good Read!!!
