Description: This book is an atlas of human anatomy arranged regionally. The images are clearly drawn without excessive labels to enhance clarity for students. The website essentially serves as an ebook integrated with a series of brief videos useful for orientation purposes.
Purpose: The book serves a companion atlas to Gray's Anatomy for Students. Keeping the same illustration format between the textbook and atlas makes this an efficient educational suite of tools. Coupled with the color-coded summarizing tables, the atlas is a complete tool for students tackling regional gross anatomy. The images, like those in the textbook, are clearly drawn and easy to understand. This third edition is clearly needed by students, and it meets the objectives set forth.
Audience: The book is directed toward health professional and allied health students and uses an appropriate level of detail rather than acting as a reference text. The authors are highly regarded in the field and the artists clearly illustrate the anatomical structures.
Features: The atlas is clinically focused, consistently and clearly illustrated, and logically organized. The illustrations demonstrate the correlation of structures with clinical images and surface anatomy essential for success in the dissection lab. The book includes over 1000 illustrations, 270 clinical images, and a more complete understanding and demonstration of the female inguinal region. The color-coded tables create a great summary for each body region and the consistent use of colors helps students navigate the attachments and functions of muscles. Isolating the diagrams also helps to ensure that the various aspects of the muscles are clearly outlined for students.
Assessment: A number of atlases are available on the market. The value of this particular book is that it merges with a student-level text to form a powerful student-learning suite of educational tools.
