Overview

Students preparing to take the Graduate Record Exam will appreciate this set of flash cards as a study aid to hone their test-taking proficiency. Vocabulary, definitions, and questions, as well as terms, formulas, and equations on each card come with answers and explanations on the reverse side. Cards cover topics that appear on the GRE, including antonyms, analogies, sentence-completion questions, discrete quantitative questions, quantitative comparison questions, data interpretation questions, questions based on knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, and more. The cards measure 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" and have a corner hole to accommodate an enclosed metal key-ring-style card holder. The ring allows students to arrange the flash cards for the Q & A study sessions in any sequence that suits their needs. This flash card set makes a useful complement to Barron's GRE--2008 test prep manual.

These cards are better than I expected. The information on the answer side is more thorough than a typical card. What I like most is that they explain analogies for vocabulary in a reverse direction. They give you a completed analogy and then a short reasoning for why the analogy works. I find this more useful to learning than to guess at the analogy first. I am also using books to prepare for the GRE, but feel that these cards carry as much information as a book.

There are Verbal & Quantitative cards in this set which DOES cover all the GRE bases, but they don't do a good job of it. The verbal cards have a list of synonyms on the back and basic definitions but I feel like the authors expect you to just plug-in words rather than memorize the meaning of them. Plus, you're supposed to work from the back of the card, without seeing the word, which just frustrates me.
