Classic Divas, indeed! The personality, style, and verve that a great female singer can imbue a song with can induce a truly thrilling sensation. This joyous rush comes fast and stays steady throughout this terrific collection featuring ten of American music’s most illustrious jazz and popular song stylists. Whether the singer is a pure jazz thrush (Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday), a popular songstress (Judy Garland), or someone who falls into the stylistic gaps (Keely Smith, Nancy Wilson, Lena Horne), the resulting artistry remains on the same elevated level. Superlative interpretations aligned with gold-standard song selection (representing timeless composers including Ellington, Berlin, and Arlen) transform Classic Divas into a compact lesson in the art of inspired vocalizing, as edifying as it is enjoyable.

This is a fine collection of jazz standards by many of the great female vocalists from the jazz era. It's especially nice to hear Keely Smith doing an upbeat rendition of "It's Been a Long Time". The only negative I can see is that the copy that I have has a mistake in the song names: one of the first few songs is titled "Untitled" and the remaining song titles are shifted off by one. (Actually, this may be an error in the database that Apple iTunes uses. I'm not sure.) It only took me a few minutes to correct this error (shifting the song names up by one and filling in the correct artist names.) It was well worth it! MIke
