Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
These ten stories from four American authors include such well-known classics as Twain's "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" and "The One-Million Pound Bank Note," Stephen Crane's "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky," Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and Jack London's "To Build a Fire." Patrick Fraley offers an excellent reading of the four Twain tales, while Bruce Robertson makes London's two stories come alive. All four readers (including Patrick Hogan and Russ Holcomb) present clear and precise diction along with variations in speech patterns, accents, and tonal changes to distinguish among characters. When CD changes occur within a single tale, the last paragraph is repeated at the start of the new side for continuity. There are no background noises or other distractions, making the works easy to listen to. Recommended for all public, academic, and school libraries.-Laurie Selwyn, Law Lib., Grayson Cty., Sherman, TX Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
