I bought this thinking it'd just be a guide to know what veggies to plant with what. This is more than a companion guide - this is about a whole ecosystem that is very simple and straightforward to create! I'm only 4 chapters into this, and I just have to recommend this to other gardeners, regardless of your level. If this is going to be your first year to have a veggie garden, I can't recommend this enough! This discusses not only what veggie pairs to plant, but how to mimic what Mother Nature does! By doing so, you'll control unwanted pests, invite the wanted ones, and create a garden that is both beautiful and organic (organic by what you put in the garden, but also in its aesthetic pleasure as well! Mother Nature doesn't do neat rows, why should you??) She never preaches, never forces her ideas on you - she simply says, look, this is what I did, how and why. Take what you want from it. But she makes such compelling cases for the why, that any reader would say "Yeah, she's right!" She also has photos of her own garden (love it when a gardener puts up their own work for review), and Martha Stewart she ain't, but who cares??? That's what makes this all the more appealing. This is a very simple read, not too wordy, breaks things down into headlined paragraphs (so you can skip what you don't need - I don't do raise beds, so I skipped that part and didn't miss out on anything). Great gift for any gardener, to help them go to the next level, and certainly can inspire someone to expand their gardening repertoire. Highly rated for research because the chapters are easy to skip around, comprehensive index, etc. I'm even highlighting this because I have no intention of getting rid of it. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I have tried unsucessfully to garden for a few years now. This book is amazing, it tells you how and what to plant together, what combinations work together, and what bugs are good for your garden. Best of all she does it without any chemicals. I would reccommend this book to anyone regardless of your skill level in the garden, she has some great ideas.
Practical guide to companion gardening and more. Cunningham writes a how-to garden that seems very doable. We have a long & narrow garden and cannot do square gardening, but I plan to incorporate raised beds for potatoes.
I bought this along with Carrots Love Tomatoes. I think this one is a little more in depth and very helpful for the less than green thumb.
Great book with "step by step" instructions for novice gardeners, and also provides helpful hints for experienced gardeners. I would highly recommend this book to any one interested in gardening.
My husband has enjoyed this book, and has already referred to it several times. I think it will be very helpful.
