Overview

The Great Global Warming Blunder provides a simple explanation for why forecasts of a global warming Armageddon constitute a major scientific faux pas: climate researchers have mixed up cause and effect when they have analyzed cloud behavior. Combining illustrations from everyday experience with state-of-the-art satellite measurements, Roy W. Spencer reveals how these scientists have been fooled by Mother Nature into believing that the Earth's climate system is very sensitive to humanity's production of carbon dioxide through the use of fossil fuels. He presents evidence that recent warming, rather than being the fault of humans, is a result of chaotic, internal natural cycles that have been causing periods of warming and cooling for thousands of years.

Dr. Spencer exposes the political, philosophical, and financial biases that have helped perpetuate the claim by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that there is a "scientific consensus" on global warming. These biases have led to groupthink and a rejection of any peer-reviewed, published evidence that does not fit the group's preconceived notions.

This book challenges our country's leaders to perform a critical review of the IPCC's claims before making any misguided policy decisions that would contribute to the deaths of millions of the world's poor. Instead of fearing more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, Dr. Spencer argues, we should consider the possibility that our burning of fossil fuels may actually be beneficial to life on Earth.

    I Also Recommend:

Finally a different perspective on Global Warming.

He challenges the very basis of human caused global warming:

It is not science to draw a conclusion and then go look for the evidence which is exactly what IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has done.

There are natural causes of global warming which have been ignored

Declaring CO2 a pollution is absurd since it is essential for life

It just may be that the earth needs more CO2 to be more productive.

The earth's climate is a system which possesses its own forces and capacity to deal with change. This for me as a Classicist was the most fascinating part.

Fossil Fuel Industry-Funded Author Who Conveniently Misanalyzed Data

John Spencer, the author of this book, is one of two "scientists" at the University of Alabama (the other is John Christy) who analyzed the atmospheric temperature in the troposphere and stratosphere as gathered by a series of satellites. According to their analysis, the warming trend was well below the warming trend of the surface temperature. The problem is that these two "scientists" had an algebraic error in their analysis. The corrected data showed a substantial increase (.09C vs. .12C increase per decade). However, an independent analysis of the satellite data showed an increase of .19C per decade, over twice what Spencer and Christy determined.

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/satellite-measurements-warming-troposphere.htm
    http://climateprogress.org/2008/05/22/should-you-believe-anything-john-christy-or-roy-spencer-say/

Both Spencer and Christy have either received money directly from the fossil fuel industry or from organizations that receive hefty funding from the industry. For instance, Spencer is a contributing author to a publication of the Tech Central Science Foundation which receives funding from both ExxonMobil and GM. He is a contributing author to the Heartland Institute which receives a good amount of money from ExxonMobil and from other fossil fuel industry-funded foundations in addition to being a "contributing expert" to the George C. Marshall Institute, another organization heavily funded by the FFI.

I always believe in following the money.

    Very good read man!

I had been searching for quite some time for the "data" behind all the conclusions made by Gore, and others but could not for the life of me find anything out there. That made me very suspicious. I was never comfortable with the "disappearance" of the medieval warm period and little ice age (on that chart). What's wrong with letting people decide for themselves, I thought to myself. This book is not the easiest for a non-scientist to understand but it lays out some very interesting points and "data". It's worth reading for sure.

    Total disaster.

Aimed at a specifc group of skeptics and fence sitters. NOT the right book for them - appears to be accessible but is ultimately contradictory and innacurate.
