Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2-Puzzled by Harry's teacher's reference to Groundhog Day, two kittens embark on a research project. When neither books nor the magazines and newspapers in the recycling pile can furnish them with information on the animal, Harry and Emily turn to the computer. They try to entice a groundhog into their backyard with grapes, marshmallows, and cookies. The next day, they find that many other creatures enjoyed the snacks, and eventually a groundhog does turn up-to eat the floral table decoration. The story is pedestrian and the color cartoon illustrations are static. Arnold Lobel's stories about Frog and Toad (HarperCollins), Elissa Haden Guest's tales of Iris and Walter (Harcourt), and Else Holmelund Minarik's adventures of Little Bear and his friends (HarperCollins) are fresher and funnier easy readers.-Jane Barrer, Washington Square Village Creative Steps, New York City Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
