Michael C. Kathrens has a knowledge of social history and architecture that makes this topic of old houses in New York City so interesting. Goulds and Vanderbilts and Loews and Astors all appear, building their fancy mansions as they moved up Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue. As always, this publisher has produced another object of beauty. Anybody interested in New York social history and architectural history should buy this classy work. J. Garrett
