    After the War

Warriors - Cry to the Stars
    Book One: After the War

Foxleap shuddered, remembering the blood and fear on the wind, as sharp as if it had all been real...
Jayfeather frowned, his tail-tip twitching from side to side. Fatewhisper looked startled, and his amber gaze shifted to his ginger paws.
"What do you think it means?" Foxleap asked the medicine cat. "A dream of the future, perhaps?"
Jayfeather shrugged. "I couldn't be sure. The only thing I'm sure of is that a battle is coming, and all four Clans will be affected. And that you may be the one to lead us into battle," the tabby tom meowed.
Foxleap froze, taken aback, and blinked. "Me?" the red tom meowed in surprise. "But I—"
"You've been chosen by StarClan," Jayfeather growled. "You must accept your destiny!"
"I don't know if I'm ready for this," the tabby murmured, staring at his paws and shaking his head. "Why does the fate of the Clans rest with me?"
"Just know that we're here to help you," Fatewhisper mewed, speaking for the first time in a quiet voice. "Me, Jayfeather, and all of your Clanmates."
"Just remember not to tell ANYONE about these dreams," Jayfeather warned grimly. "We don't want the Clan panicing."
"But what about when the Dark Forest attacked?" Foxleap questioned. "We weren't exactly prepared then."
"That was then," the medicine cat said. "This is now."
When the gray tom said nothing more, Foxleap nodded curtly and padded out from the dark cave. Sunlight met him, turning his russet fur bloodred.
"Blood and fire will rage in a battle between cat and cat..." a faint voice whispered in his ear, and the tom's ears pricked.
    "Icecloud?" he whispered in surprise.
A faint white shape appeared before him, and a pair of icy blue eyes. Foxleap stared in astonishment, seeing his sister's starry form.
Icecloud nodded, looking solem. "I'll be with you, brother," she meowed quietly, blinking her sky blue eyes.
"Is Squirrelflight with you?" Foxleap asked quietly, thinking of his former mentor. "Dustpelt? And... Ferncloud?" The memory of his mother and father's deaths was still fresh in his mind, how Ferncloud had been struck down in the battle against the Dark Forest, and Dustpelt had been killed by a fox.
Icecloud nodded. "They're watching over you," she purred.
Her gaze suddenly turned sad, and she stepped forward to touch her muzzle to Foxleap's ear. "Please tell Bumblestripe that I still love him," Icecloud whispered sadly. "Even if his heart had always longed for Dovewing."
Foxleap nodded. "I'll tell him that."
Icecloud smiled. "I wish I could have seen our kits made warriors. Are Swiftfang, Dovestorm, and Winterbreeze okay?" Her sky blue gaze was anxious as she waited for his oppinion.
    Foxleap nodded. "They're fine warriors."
"ThunderClan will need them for the final battle," Icecloud meowed. "And Foxleap..." she trailed off, flicking a tail-tip over his ear. "Don't be blind to the cats around you."
Before Foxleap could ask his sister what she ment, the starry white shecat disappeared on the breeze, her soft fur fading into the wind.
"I'll be watching you..." Icecloud's voice echoed in his ear.
Foxleap padded away, sadness and happiness in his heart, and his sister's scent still fresh on the breeze.
