Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judith Zorfass
After the reading this book you will know, with confidence, who the basketball power players and teams have been over the past fifty years. Each chapter focuses on a different player or team, sixteen in all, beginning with Bill Russell in 1957 and ending with the Boston Celtics and their 2009 NBA win in the finals. Other recognizable names include Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson. Each chapter captures heart-stopping game moments. The play-by-play build up to each of these record-breaking achievements is vividly detailed, with anticipation mounting. Even though the outcome is known, the author is still able to create a sense of excitement and suspense. Some of the records described still hold today. For example, the 100 points Wilt Chamberlain scored in one game is still unmatched. At the end of each chapter there is a summary paragraph providing career highlights. If you are a sports enthusiast you can feel as if you are right there witnessing the action. Included are great photos that seem even more immediate after reading about the events they capture.
