Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Crowder
When most people think of sharks, one specific shark comes to mind: the great white. This book, part of the Pebble Plus "Shark" series for very young readers, is full of information about this huge, savage fish. Featuring carefully crafted text for the very young or nonreader, this book includes facts about the great white's size, including a human-shark comparison, coloring and aerodynamic shape, where they swim in the world's oceans, hunting and feeding behavior (prey are seals, sea lions, and dolphins; they can jump out of the water to catch lunch), reproduction (pups are born alive), and so on. As with other sharks, the great white's sense of smell helps it to hunt. This book and series would appeal to young children who prefer nonfiction. It is also a great "look at" book with its colorful photo illustrations. This title includes a note to teachers and parents, an index, a glossary list of more shark books to enjoy, plus websites.
