This CD kicks A_ _ I listened to it for a week straight when I first bought it. On the way to work then on the way home, sometimes, repeating a song 3 or 4 times this is a must have in my opinion.

I rememeber my mom (a USA/80s/Springsteen concert fan) buying this right when it came out. I was ten, and I had always enjoyed hearing the Boss on the radio or whatnot, but my affection for him and his music was cemented after hearing what this excellent collection had to offer! A huge ''Tunnel of Love'' fan, I grew to love the rock side of Bruce every bit as much as the soft rock side! To quote my parents (I overheard this discussion when the album came out) :''I would have been disappointed if he hadn't made ''Born to Run'' the first song'' I agree completely! I love every song on ''Greatest Hits'', but there is SOMETHING about ''Born to Run''! I remember my mom also used to play ''Badlands'' and ''Glory Days'' constantly. I think they kind of spoke to her and her experiences. I however, always favored ''Dancing in the Dark'' and ''Thunder Road''. It's all in the perspective! Anyway, when I had a major crush two summers later, it was ''Secret Garden'' that elevated me into a contant state of romanticism! Due to this album (and inevitably my car cd player and in recent months, my Discman) I have had so many beautiful memories, and been able to experience just a small, but very delicious slice of the Boss's greatest, and for that I thank heaven!

This may or may not be Bruce's most popular songs ever, but it is for the most part missing his best songs. If I were to own one Springsteen record, it would have to be Born To Run. That gives a better description of what his music is about. Fortunately we can all buy as many cds as we want, leaving Greatest Hits a good mix of catchy anthems, as well as 4 previously unreleased songs that are worth the purchase in their own right. If you only want one Bruce CD, this isn't it, but if your a collector I recommend it.

Springsteen has adopted his own set of criteria for his first Greatest Hits album. He packs as much music onto a single disc as possible, even if that means editing songs. He is more interested in including his recent material than his older material. He has not felt bound to interpret the album's title to mean he must include his most successful singles: Top 40 hits are left off, while album tracks are included. He has opted to include a couple of new songs, a previously unreleased outtake ("Murder Incorporated"), and a new recording of a previously unreleased old song. All of which is to say that Greatest Hits is a hodgepodge. Nevertheless, some of Springsteen's best...
