Greatest Hits of the Seventies [Sony]

The title of Sony Music Special Products' Greatest Hits of the Seventies, Vols. 1-3 shouldn't be taken literally -- after all, there are no Elton John singles featured on the collection, and he was certainly one of the biggest hitmakers of the era. Instead, it should be thought of as a random sampler of hits from Columbia and Epic

Overview

The title of Sony Music Special Products' Greatest Hits of the Seventies, Vols. 1-3 shouldn't be taken literally -- after all, there are no Elton John singles featured on the collection, and he was certainly one of the biggest hitmakers of the era. Instead, it should be thought of as a random sampler of hits from Columbia and Epic artists. If you have those expectations, the disc will be quite enjoyable, since it contains such staples as "Baby Hold On," "Hold Your Head Up," "Nature's Way," "Livin' Thing," "Surrender," "Magnet and Steel," "Cruel to Be Kind," "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)," "You're Only Lonely," "Frankenstein," "Cat Scratch Fever," "Baby Love," "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Arizona," "I Can Help," "Rock On," "Oye Como Va," "American Girls," "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" and Mott the Hoople's "Sweet Jane," all of which are enough to make it worth its budget-line price.
