All Music Guide - Mark Deming
It's not especially difficult to compile a satisfying and listenable album from Patsy Cline's chart hits, and this solid and serviceable set offers a dozen simply brilliant songs from Cline's catalog. The biggest and best-known hits are here -- "Walkin' After Midnight," "Crazy," "Sweet Dreams," "He's Got You" -- as well as a few equally beautiful lesser-knowns, such as "You're Stronger Than Me" and "Why Can't He Be You," all of which capture her superb voice and the gloriously lush "countrypolitan" production from Owen Bradley at its best. In short, if you're a casual listener looking for a good single-disc Patsy Cline set, this is a great way to go, except that this ...

In short, if you're a casual listener looking for a good single-disc Patsy Cline set, this is a great way to go, except that this happens to be the third go-round for this set, which was first issued on LP in 1967, given a new cover and upgraded to CD in 1988, and now issued again on CD with the rather generic 1967 cover art restored. This is great collection from a great artist, but you may want to make sure that you haven't already bought this set already, and if you have, this edition doesn't offer any inducement to upgrade.

    The Best of the Best

As Usual for me, this CD replaces one of my most cherished albums; One that I took particular care of. The CD liner note quotes: "Newly digitally remastered" - "The longest best selling album in the history of country music." I would not argue with either statement here; This is one impeccable remastering job. Remenber the first time you played that pristine new Decca LP on your expensive sound system. That perfect unblemished sound of a brand new quality LP. That is exactly the sound quality of this latest release. I have compared it to older CDs I have of this artist. No question about it, the sound is wonderful. The only question I ask of the MCA/Decca folks; What on earth took you so long! I have been looking for this one for the last fifteen years! Thanks. As for Patsy Cline, Her work speaks for itself, and the twelve hauntingly beautiful tracks on this album/CD are among the best of her Decca years. I Hope to see (hear) much more of this quality work from MCA/Decca featuring this timeless artist. If you are a Patsy Cline fan, this one would make a very wonderful update to your collection.
