Barnes & Noble - David McGee
Bolstered by four new songs, Clint Black's Greatest Hits II is an outstanding 16-song overview of his recent past that tips Black's hand for the future. The first of the new cuts, a duet between Clint and wife Lisa Hartman Black on "Easy for Me to Say," is destined for the upper reaches of the country charts. With a lush orchestra supporting Clint’s acoustic guitar intro, the lovebirds swear undying devotion to each other in a tuneful, love-me-like-there’s-no-tomorrow valentine. Even with big productions, the Blacks’ duets have an earthy feel that eludes most contemporary duos -- witness "When I Said I Do," from 1999’s fabD'electrified, included here. "Little Pearl and ...

"Little Pearl and Lily’s Lullaby," two songs melded into one track, kicks off with the cooing of the Blacks' new baby, followed by Clint’s warm, expressive vocal and a tender, string-laden lullaby, all of it beautifully realized, right to the note-perfect music box chimes closing it out. Not that the old boy’s gone soft --. another new cut, "Money or Love," is a high-octane tour de force of muscular playing and singing. Otherwise the 12 previously issued tracks limn Black’s career from his 1989 breakthrough album, Killin' Time "Walkin’ Away," "Nothin’s News" to the aforementioned D'electrified also represented by the duet with Steve Wariner on "Been There". From 1997’s Nothin' but the Taillights, Martina McBride joins in for a bluesy duet on the tearjerker "Still Holding On." And as a surprise album closer, Clint reworks his megahit "Put Yourself in My Shoes," the title cut from his 1990 triple-platinum sophomore effort, into a Ray Charles-style big-band number, complete with a swinging horn section, a muted trumpet blowing atmospheric background support, and a pungent guitar solo out of the B. B. King songbook. It’s a big ending, entirely appropriate to a powerhouse collection.
All Music Guide - Maria Konicki Dinoia
This 16-track Clint Black collection of bona fide hits picks up where the first greatest-hits album left off. Songs like "The Shoes You're Wearing," "When My Ship Comes In," and "Something That We Do" are just some of the kickers that grace this well-chosen package of songs. Added to the mix are three duets that remind you of Black's ability to play off other singers, including the emotionally charged "Still Holding On" with labelmate Martina McBride. Also included here are three new recordings, clearly reflective of Black's newfound fatherhood and his awe for his beautiful wife: "Little Pearl and Lily's Lullaby" expresses his joy at the birth of his daughter, "Money or Love" debates the pros and cons of both, and "Easy for Me to Say" is the sweet follow-up to last year's duet with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black, "When I Said I Do." With over an hour of listening time, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 is worth every second.

Nicely picked second collection of hits (+ more!)

Black¿s second volume of hits expands upon his first by focussing on his last two albums (<I>Nothin¿ But the Taillights</I> and <I>D¿Lectrified</I>) as well as digging deeper into releases dating back to his 1989 debut, <I>Killin¿ Time.</I> By covering some of the same earlier ground, <I>Volume II</I> is able to pick up early hits that didn¿t fit into the first volume. Chart-toppers ''Walkin¿ Away'' and ''Nobody¿s Home'', and top-10s ''One More Payment'' and ''When My Ship Comes In'' seamlessly complement the newer hits. The regularity and consistent quality of Black¿s hits is really impressive. <br><br> For fans who already own Black¿s entire catalog, <I>Volume II</I> adds four new tracks, including a new duet with Black¿s wife, Lisa Hartman Black, as well as a swinging big-band rearrangement of ''Put Yourself in My Shoes'' and a lullaby to the Blacks¿ baby daughter. The collection adds up to a generous sixty-five minutes of music that provides a potent dose of Black¿s charms. And if that¿s not enough, the extended CD-ROM capabilities of the disc provide a screen saver, desktop wallpaper, and a homegrown video shot on the D¿Lectrified tour.
