Barnes & Noble - Seth Kaufman
This second installment of Estefan's Greatest Hits shows her at the peak of her Latin-pop crossover powers, culling all her biggest English-language cuts from 1993 to 2000. The spotlight here is on her later mainstream coups, such as the pumping dance revelry of "Heaven's What I Feel," the 1996 Summer Olympics theme "Reach," and her cover of the Vicki Sue Robinson disco classic "Turn the Beat Around." "Oye" is just the sort of infectious techno salsa that wrote Miami Sound Machine into the annals of pop crossover history. All Music Guide - Jose F. Promis
Gloria Estefan's second volume of greatest hits seems more progressive than her first, considering the techno-leaning sounds of her 1990s hits which dominate this set as compared to the more straight-ahead pop from her 1980s hits. This collection assembles nearly all of her Hot 100 hits since her last Greatest Hits album only "Don't Let This Moment End" is missing. Most of the songs are included in their original album versions, save for a couple which may be of interest to the collector. "If We Were Lovers," one of her loveliest and classiest ballads, was originally on the Mi Tierra album in its Spanish-language form, titled "Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan." The English version of the song had never been available on any of her albums until now. Also making its first appearance on a Gloria Estefan album is her duet with 'N Sync, "Music of My Heart." "You'll Be Mine Party Time" and "I'm Not Giving You Up" are featured in remixed forms which had previously only been available as singles. The real treat, however, are the three new songs, which rank among the singer's best, especially "You Can't Walk Away From Love," a dramatic, sweeping, Middle Eastern-tinged ballad. Also included is an updated remix of her first U.S. hit, "Conga." All in all, this is a fine greatest-hits album, almost superior to her first, with classy ballads, great pop songs, and high-energy dance numbers.

Gloria -- A Real Pop Diva!

What can I say about this fanatastic album? The more I listened to it, the more I fell in love with it. This album truly exemplifies Gloria's real talent, especially with her 3 new songs: ''Can't Walk Away From Love,'' the up-tempo Britney Spears dance pop ''Out Of Nowhere,'' and the R&B influenced Eve or Destiny's Child feel ''I Got No Love.'' This is a new change for Gloria -- a very successful and fantastic one! ''Heaven's What I Feel,'' ''Turn The Beat Around,'' ''Music Of My Heart,'' ''Reach''...the list goes on. These were true Pop staples for mainstream radio that has graced over the mid-90's on. This album is a must for Pop lovers and for those who like Gloria Estefan music. This is great! A true seller! The music and sound is incredible!

    Wow...

The whole CD is fantastic. All the songs have been Gloria's top hits. But what threw me was one of the new songs on the cd. ''Out of Nowhere'' will be one of the hottest dance mixes to hit the dance clubs I'm sure. It sounds like nothing Gloria has ever done before. It just shows that Gloria can do anything anyone else can and then some.

    Good Dance Music!

Most of the songs on this CD are okay to good, but the best song is "Turn the Beat Around", and Gloria Estefan has the best version of this great song.

    Makes You Want to Dance!

I purchased this CD because of one song on it "Everlasting Love"! I'm so glad I added this CD to my collection as I really enjoyed all the songs on it! It's hard to listen to this one and be still!

    Gloria at her best

Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio have contributed a great deal to the range of music that America loves. The Cuban flavor to their music has helped renew the love afair Americans have had with the Cuban culture for so long. The vocal range of Estefan id impressive as well as her ability to place so much passion in her work.

    Where did her VOICE go?

I really like and admire Gloria Estefan. And I've enjoyed so many of her songs. She is a role model in many ways, and a talented musician to boot. But someone must finally say this -- her singing has become terrible. What happened? As she has grown older her upper register has disappeared, her tone is often ugly, and her sense of pitch has veered way off track. Some of the songs included here include just-plain-bad vocal moments, and if you've ever watched a broadcast of her singing some of these tunes live... well then you know what I'm talking about. Ughh. Most vocalists experience a lowering of their range as their career progresses; it's the natural aging process of the voice, often accelerated by constant use. But pros must find a way to compensate. Either by additional vocal training, or a change in their singing style, or by performing songs in a lower key. Poor Gloria sounds like a moaning, groaning memory of her former vocal self. I literally race to the "off" button whenever I hear her version of "Turn the Beat Around" on radio. The slightest high note is a strain, and her pitch is usually flat. It's hard for me to believe that a musician of her caliber would let both her voice and ear go flabby, but what other explanation is there for the loss of her once sparkling and supple vocals? I like some of these songs rather well, but I cannot recommend the disc. It's just too painful to hear Gloria struggle with the vocal requirements. Please Gloria, get a vocal coach. You have so much to offer!

She just gets better and better!

If you thought Gloria was good 'back then', then wait until you hear the new songs on this album !!! I think the best of Gloria is yet to come. The new songs 'Out of Nowhere', 'I Got No Love', and 'You Can't Walk Away From Love' are going to throw Gloria back into the pop mainstream. That is a guarantee! 'Out Of Nowhere' is an AMAZINGLY new sound for her. SHe knows exactly what she's doing, and I am eager and happy to see her experiment with VERY fresh new sounds. This CD is nothing short of awesome.. PERIOD.
