Overview

This book is about lies and their consequences, through history and across the world. Many great pinnacles of human achievement are inextricably linked to shameless untruths; in fact deceptions have played a major part in shaping the course of history and the destiny of nations. Lies have been used to justify wars, to acquire weapons, slaves, fire, food, gold, land, women, men, livestock, and industrial secrets. Lies have been told to impose ...

Lies have been told to impose the dreams, ideology, or religion of one person, or group of people, on the rest of humankind.

The Greatest Lies in History is divided into four parts: Spin & Doublespeak; Passing the Buck; Official Deceptions & Cover-ups; and Acting Under False Pretenses. Each part comprises case studies that represent a specific theme or type of deception. For each episode, author Alexander Canduci analyzes the “official story,” before offering a thoroughly researched and compelling new version of events, and giving a contemporary perspective on the legacy of the lie or deception perpetrated. Some may have had a significant impact for only a generation or two, while others have continued to reverberate throughout history.

A very fun and interesting book. There are many good stories in this book about how history tried to hide the truth. This is a favorite book in my history collection.

one of the most interesting books about history

Mu husband and I love this book. It's written as a number of short stories about events in history. The author tels the official version of the story and then very convincingly tells with view on the same story (his view seems to be very well supported by facts and logic). Very educating and gives a fresh look at some of the "well known" historical facts. Highly recommend this book
