Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kip Wilson
One of titles in the "First Facts" series, this book presents basic facts about this elite branch of the U. S. Army that is also known as Special Forces. These forces work with foreign leaders and armies of other countries to help them defend themselves. Besel captures young readers' interest with an account of a generic yet exciting mission in Afghanistan, then provides a description of what this branch does and how they conduct operations, including the equipment and tools they use. Simple, understandable text, together with colorful images, combines to capture the interest of young readers. Glossary terms are marked in bold in the text, and are well-defined at the bottom of the page and in the back of the book for reference, and a helpful index in the back of the book is also included. Short fact bubbles on each spread provide interesting details about what life as a Green Beret is like. This interesting read provides a great springboard for young readers wanting to learn about the armed services in general, or specifically about what it takes to become a member of this elite branch.
