Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The Green Mountain Spinnery was founded 20 years ago to produce natural-fiber wool yarns in support of regional sheep farming. The Spinnery produces yarns in a mill in rural Vermont, and its yarn production has expanded over the years to include alpaca, mohair, and organic cotton yarn blends. This book is a collection of more than 30 patterns written for Green Mountain Spinnery yarns and never before available in book form. The patterns include detailed instructions, full-color photographs, charts, and schematics for sweaters, vests, mittens, scarves, and hats. Experienced knitters will be intrigued by the "Energized Vest," which uses yarns under tension to give stitches a unique texture. Although these projects were designed for Green Mountain Spinnery yarns, enough information is provided to make it possible to substitute other yarns if desired. The wide range of sizes included makes this book a good buy for public libraries. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.

Meet the Author

The Green Mountain Spinnery, a worker/owner cooperative, was founded with a distinctly Vermont mission: to produce the highest quality all-natural yarns, to help sustain regional sheep farming, and to develop environmentally sound ways to process natural fibers. Since then the Spinnery has grown and thrived, designing and producing all-natural yarns in alpaca, mohair, wool, and organic cotton that are known and loved by knitters and weavers across the country. Unlike most commercial mills, the yarns they produce with vintage equipment are untouched by bleach or chemicals. New members, new ideas, new product lines, and more continue to spin out from this talented, knowledgeable, devoted collective.
