Children's Literature - Kate Walker
Greg has won a wonderful prize! His mural design was chosen to be painted at the park's clean-up, and everyone in his community is excited for the completion of the project. But up the hill lives a gang of boys angry that Greg's design beat that of their ringleader's, and they are spray-painting all over Greg's neighborhood. Greg's cousin James wants to get revenge, but is caught. Greg is furious at his cousin's disrespectful behavior and wants nothing to do with him—but when the mural is defaced, will Greg join James and get revenge, or will James's plan stay within the letter of the law? This straight-forward story about the power of good choices over poor choices will appeal to readers still struggling with the concept of consequences. The formatting makes the story a bit hard to follow and begins with a number of unexplained characters; however the overall message is strong. Reviewer: Kate Walker
