    A comprehensive and practical guide

The Gregg Reference Manual is a comprehensive guide to the language issues that students, secretaries, writers, editors, proofreaders, and business executives need to address every day. The content is well organized, and an extensive index simplifies locating the rules you need. Practical notes, useful examples, and handy cross-references abound. Helpful proofreading, editing, typesetting, and formatting advice is included, along with up-to-date information on communicating in an electronic world. Spiral binding prevents unwanted page turns, and a sturdy fold-in flap allows you to close the book and reopen it without losing your place. Next to your dictionary, The Gregg Reference Manual may quickly become your most reached-for reference tool. You'll find its treatment of punctuation, grammar, style, usage, and formatting extremely thorough. It includes many rules and points of detail that other style guides and typography textbooks do not cover. The section on compound adjectives alone would justify the price of the manual. But when serious questions arise about commas, dashes, quotation marks, footnote markers, abbreviations, or word division, it's hard to find an issue that The Gregg Reference Manual hasn't answered. William A. Sabin is a prescriptivist who isn't quickly swayed by fads and fashionable style trends. His assessments are balanced and reflect serious thought and attention to detail. Not every company or editor will agree with all of Sabin's rules. But even if your personal or corporate style differs in a few details, The Gregg Reference Manual will remain an authoritative reference tool for anyone who must deal with the written word in a business or academic context.
