Books are GREAT, Customer Service NOT

It's too bad there is not a separate rating systems for customer service, because I would give B&N NO STARS. I usually order through Amazon or Walmart. Walmart didn't have the books, and Amazon said it would take an additional 6-11 days to ship. Having just finished her latest series, 'The Hunger Games', I wanted to get my hands on this series ASAP. So I paid EXTRA for expedited shipping. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!! It stated the books would be here in 1-3 business days--they finally arrived almost a week later!!!! I sent an email to customer service and got NO RESPONSE. This is the SECOND time B&N has done this to me. Never again will I order from this rip-off store!!!!

This is a fantastic series. Great story, very well written. It is an excellent choice for people who don't think their kids are quite ready for The Hunger Games series. This series is also violent, but in a more fictional way since the conflict and violence involves made up species rather than humans.I would never allow my 12 yr old to read Hunger Games, but she is reading these books now and LOVES them. (I have read both series and love both)

Great Before the Hunger Games Series

My Daughter and I both loved the Hunger Games so we picked this up and really enjoyed this series, too. She was 11+ when she read it and the boxed set is for my 10 year old nephew. Hope he likes it as much as we did.

This is a really great series, I read it when I was like twelve

    This is a really great series, I read it when I was like twelve or thirteen and I couldn't put it down. These books are the ones that jump-started my habit of reading for fun.. Something I never thought I would ever want to do at that age;

    What I liked:

    1. Character development; Collins does a stellar job at making you care for the characters, as well as hate them equally as much. Let's just say that I did cry once or twice while reading, and I don't cry often.

    2. Overall idea; he idea of a young boy stumbling into some underground city is quite compelling.. But keep in mind that there is much more to the plot than that.

    3. Plot twists; throughout the series the plot gets twisted, turned, drowned, burned, buried, hung, and more. There are a lot of things you will not see coming. \

    4. The prophecies; (don't want to spoil anything, so you'll have to read to find out)

    What I didn't like:

    1. Length; at the time I was okay with it, but now I wish the books had been longer, but I guess this is something everyone says when it comes to their favorite books.

    2. Writing style; Collins does an amazing job when it comes to her style of writing. I don't know how to explain it any other way than that it is comfortable.

I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, action, and books where there are journeys involved. Adults and teens 16+ may enjoy these, but I would recommend more for 10-14. The book set is nice too, great to have them all in one organized bundle.

    Recommend

My 12 year old son, who is an advanced reader, really like the Hunger Game series by Suzanne Collins. Upon recommendation by the children's librarian at our local branch, she had liked the Underland Chronicles at an earlier age. My son is on the 2nd book of the series and said he really likes it. I would recommend it to advanced readers at 6th grade and up.

Great Story From Beginning to End!

Suzanne Collins brings the reader into a whole new world. She describes with enough detail to really give you a good idea of where she was while writing this, yet without being to wordy for younger readers. My children are still too young to read but I plan on using this series to hook them into the world of literature when they reach the chapter book level. Very fun series, really makes you think about the world and in my opinion brings up many topics for discussion with young readers. I will enjoy reading these books for many many years!

    Fantastic!!

I orginally bought this set of books for my 12 year old son, but wanted to read them first to see what the books were all about. These books were so fantastic that I zoomed through all the books in about a week. My son is now reading them and is on the 2nd book of the series. I highly recommend reading them!
