This ebook of Grimms' Complete Fairy Tales appears to be a digitized copy. It is readable, however I found the table of contents to be useless for navigation. You can read the TOC to find the page but then you have to manually navigate to the page number. The TOC is not directly accessible via my Nook ereader. I did find several miss-spelled words in my short 5 minutes reading so I decided to delete this version and to go get another version. I will look at the non-free versions to get a copy that can be navigated using the Nook ereader controls.

A mixture of Poe and Aesop's fable may best describe the fantasies featured in the pages of this tome as they entail morality tales many of which do not shy away from bloodshed and gore that have become accepted as the norm courtesy of the Disney studios catering to political correctness and providing baby food for the masses. If this were not enjoyable enough, all these tales are collected in a single volume. At times, however, it is this very inclusiveness that works against itself as some of the stories are very much the same thus becoming repetitive while, in other instances, abrupt turns in the story line with a suddenness that proves disconcerting and confusing. This last is overshadowed by the aforementioned virtues making both the hardcover edition with a dust jacket containing liner notes (ISBN-13: 978-0-088029-519-2) and the leather bound volume (ISBN-13: 978-0-7607-0335-9) lacking the dust jacket and liner notes but, instead, having gilded pages and attached gold ribbon book mark both excellent additions to anyone's library. This book does indeed contain the same, good old stories, but they are translated into a literal, flat english that leaves all the richness and shadow out of the stories. Highly disappointing and hardly worth reading when there are so many better versions of this collection.

Even though this has spelling errors and table of contents does not link to stories this is a complete collection of all 211 stories. It is unedited and contains punishment for the wicked. Great deal for free!

I have been wanting to read the complete works of the "real" fairy tale stories. This is a fantastic reading of all the Grimm's classics. Dark, gory and sometimes funny tales. The true story of Cinderella is by far the best! The stepsisters scheming and lengths they go through to get the shoe to fit are how we see the darker side of humanity. Not recommended for elementary school aged children.

This book is priceless, in that it contains those tales that are well-known and those that are practically unheard of. Many of those that we have heard, i.e. Snow White & Rose Red, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. are told in their original fashion, without having been watered down or "Disney-cized" for children and those who constantly wish for happy endings for all. I think that there is a certain sense of dimension added when these tales are left as originally told, as they were passed down through the generations. Many similarities can be seen between the Grimms' tales and those found in other collections - this is because they are a part of who we, as people are. They are culture.

So many classics, but if you're used to the Disney versions, you're in for a ride.

This book is great! Every one of the tales have a good moral to them, but i would not recommend them for small children to read.

Ok, so OVERALL this book was preeeettttyy good but why Grimm(s)? WHY IS THIS EVEN A *CHILDRENS* BOOK??? First of all, there is A LOT of dying(or at least almost dying) in several of the stories, and second, in Cinderella, there is quite a few EXTREMLY DISTURBING scenes. Like one of the stepsisters was trying to fit her heel inside the shoe but ut wouldnt fit so the stepmother suggested she CUT the heel OFF!! May I be the first to say EW THAT IS REALLY GROSS AND DISTURBING!! The prince was fooled untio a talking bird tweeted to him to look at the floor of hi carraige and he did and saw BLOOD ALL OVER THE FLOOR from the SEVERED HEEL!! Then she went back and the othe stepsister tried the shoe on but her toe wouldnt fit so the stepmom suggested she CUT HER TOE OFF!! The prince again was fooled then the bird tweeted again that she was the wrong one and he again saw BLOOD ON THE FLOOR!!!!! He brought her back and blah blah blah blah blah you probably know the rest of this tale. There were some other stories I was disgruntled by but the rest was kind of ok. Parents, please do not read this until you think your kids you want to read this to are the appropriate age to handle stories like these. You have been warned. This book is not super bad, but I do not think children under 8 and a half should read this/have this read to them. If you like stuff like severing toes than go right ahead and read this. I dare you to.
