In fact, several of the composers who were featured on Ahn-Plugged return to Groovebox: Michael Nyman offers the minimalist-styled "Yellow Beach"; Kenji Buch presents his lively suite, Swing Shift; and Astor Piazzolla reappears with another spicy tango, his "Milonga del ángel." In addition, Ron Yedida closes the program with the sensitive "Lullaby"; Maurice Jarre offers his ambitious Engadiner Suite, a distinctive take on the "four seasons" theme; and, to start things off, the sisters take a page from the Kronos Quartet's playbook with a cover of the Doors' "Riders on the Storm," as arranged by Michael Ritaj. With that Doors track as the opener and the sexy clothing on the album cover, one might be tempted to think of these three as Vanessa-Mae clones, or as simply another crass marketing device. To the contrary, the serious and adventurous music on this album once again reveals that the Ahns are far from a crossover contrivance. They "cross over" the way Kronos does: by exploring the boundaries of chamber music, but always with an eye to the limits of good taste and with true accomplishment. The captivating result shows the Ahn sisters at the top of their game and, yet again, in the vanguard of classical music.

    Remarkable!

    I have just this minute returned from hearing the Ahn Trio play for the Parsons Dance Company at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, and I immediately sat down at my computer to research them online. I am speechless! These women are incredible musicians, and I will buy anything they record. How remarkable to find this much talent in one family!
