Groovy Stand in Storm HD+

Overview

Slim, smart, and lightweight, this ingenious cover is the perfect choice for protecting your NOOK HD+. The polyurethane exterior, accented by a subtle "nook" logo, is both strong and smooth to the touch; inside, a plastic shell cradles your device while offering full access to the controls. But that's only part of the story. An articulation on the front cover allows you to fold it back and tuck the edge into the metallic clip on the back of the case. The result is a sturdy stand that gives you the option of using your NOOK hands-free in landscape orientation, in either video-viewing mode or typing mode. (The viewing mode offers a more vertical angle.) Proving that this is a smart cover in every sense, it also puts your NOOK HD+ into sleep mode when you close the front flap and wakes it up when the flap is opened. A laser-etched "nook" logo on the back-cover clip adds to the visual appeal of this superior product.

 • Dimensions: 6.5" x 9.75" x .50"
 • Polyurethane cover, plastic interior shell
 • Adapts for use as a stand
 • Sleep/wake function
 • Suitable for NOOK HD+ only

I purchased the groovy cover and at first, I thought it might be too flimsy. My nook covers tend to take a lot of abuse as I keep my nook at hand at all times. One concern I had with purchasing both the HD+ and a cover was weight and portability. I always look for a purse that is not too big but has a side pocket to keep my nook separate from the contents of my purse and easy to get to and put away. I was quite surprised to find that my new HD+ and groovy cover actually fit into the side pocket easier and with less bulk than my NC with it's industrial easel cover. I try to keep my purses as small as I can get away with to force me to keep what I put into it at a minimum because I get serious back pain otherwise. (my nooks are as vital an item to carry in my purse as my wallet so it is ALWAYS a consideration when purchasing a new purse). The new HD+ with it's cover seems lighter in my purse than the NC with it's cover and it is thinner as well so creates less bulk . It is actually more comfortable to carry around than my NC is. Though it has no clasp, it hasn't been an issue for me. One less item to create bulk and weight and the lack of one makes sliding the HD+ in and out of my purses side pocket EASIER as there is nothing to catch anywhere. I love the automatic sleep and wake feature. THAT is awesome. I'm quite happy with my cover and the HD+. I worried about the size and weight being comfortable to use, but I worry no longer. I don't know if it will last forever or not. My covers rarely do with the constant use they get. But having toted around my nooks in bulkier, heavier covers, there are real advantages to a sleeker, lighter cover even if it doesn't last forever. Comfort is sometimes just as important.

This is a wonderful slim case. Some people think this cover has a design flaw. Although the 2 holes on the back of the cover appear to be designed with the trademark nook hook or hole in mind, they are actually intended to let the sound from the speaker through so as not to muffle it. There is a hole near the corner and it too is designed to let sound through yet not compromise the stability of the snap corner, thus two holes. The only thing that would make this better for me is a magnetic top cover so it stays closed.

I agree with the previous poster. The cover is great...very light and doesn't add bulk. The stand feature is really nice and stable. I got it in Storm and it's a nice dark gray. I just really wish there was a clasp of some sort. I'll keep the cover though.

I love this case. Hey everyone, the hole is there for the speaker. If the hole was not there part of the speaker would be cover.

I have been useing this case for over a month now and have no complaints. For being so light weight, it has held up very well. It still looks brand new, and i have not been easy on it.

I bought this cover as soon as I received my Nook HD to protect it and I love it. It covers the nook nicely, it feels great to hold and looks sharp. I bought the cover in black. I read the other posts about the cover not staying closed but I haven't had any issues as mine stays closed once I close it! Overall I'm very satisfied with the cover and would purchase it again!!

This case does not come with a hole for the hoop on the bottom left corner. This does not bother me one bit as I have never needed to use it for anything, and have nothing to hook to it. The only other the I found wrong with this is that it doesn't swivel to vertical while you're using the stand function. The open/close functionality is very nice as I find myself constantly turning my screen on and off when I am at work. Knowing I can do it by just closing the flap is wonderful. it has a very sturdy feel to it for the weight, and the color is sleek. It is easy to wipe down if your fingers leave marks, too. It also doesn't increase It's thickness but a HUGE amount. To the people who say that theirs won't stay open, they might be bending the cover behind the nook and holding it there, or laying it down on top of the cover while reading, making it's "natural" position want to be "opened" instead of closed. So I would advise to not fold the cover completely behind the nook while you read. In response to the Anonymous guy, CSGrady, and a few others: The hole in the bottom right IS for the speaker and not the loop. It's quite obvious, being that the cut out portion of the cover is the same shape, and almost the same size. This case does not come with a hole for the nook loop, yes, but as I said one is easily make able, or if whatever you want to hang from it is thin enough it might not be impeded by the case.

OK, look...the cutout in the rear of this case is NOT for the lanyard hole in the lower left corner of the Nook. It is the relief for the SPEAKER at the lower right corner of the rear case cover. Without this cutout, the SPEAKER would be covered. Enough with the design flaw junk already... In any event, I like this case a lot, EXCEPT for the fact that the top right plastic cup that holds the Nook in place is too tight, and has caused the Nook's front bezel at that point to lift off the screen's glass, creating an airgap that is a bit unsightly. I think that this is a good quality case overall, but I may try a different type for this reason only.

Got this stand cover when the Nook HD+ first came out. It is sturdy and handy, and easily Surface washable. Excellent choice of cover!

I purchased the Nook Tablet when it first came out. Love it and love switching covers on it, so I have about 10 of them! I received the Nook HD+ for my birthday and absolutely love it, as well. Having lots of experience with the pros and cons of various cases I chose this as my first case for the HD+. Most importantly it is slim and lightweight and adds very little bulk to the Nook, making it easy to stash in my purse. The easel stand and sleep/wake-up functionality of the cover are added bonuses! The biggest problem with this case is deciding which color(s) to get! I am sure I will not stop at one. :)

I really like this case.....i have it in black. Its super sleek and a very thin case. My only problem is that the case does not stay closed. Other then thats its great the sleep/awake feature works great as well!

I Don't have a Nook and still bought it! Bought the cover for the the cover's sake, i don't have a nook hd + or otherwise. The groovy stand is absolutely fantastic, you even get a dummy nook inside. I think i can overlook what may or maynot be a design flaw with the hole thingy but it doesn't take anything away from it. Its absolutely gorgeous. Ps; i'm not crazy, nook hd+ on order, should be here tomorrow :)

I like my nook HD+ cover. It protects my nook from being scratched and damaged. That was my main reason for purchasing. It was a bit expensive in my opinion but it serves its purpose. I recommend it.

I love this cover. I went shopping for a colorful designer cover with a pocket. But am so glad I bought the Groovy Stand cover. It is lightweight. I got it in storm color which matches the Nook Hd+ perfectly. It just seems to be part of the Nook rather than a separate cover. I love the open and close feature that wakes it up and puts it to sleep. I highly recommend this cover.

This cover has absolutely no design flaws. I admit that I was a little skeptical at first about the cover staying shut since it does not have a magnetic clasp. However, I have had no issues with it staying open, and I carry my Nook with me everywhere. I'm actually quite abusive to covers, and this one has held-up extremely well for the amount of abuse it has received over the last three months. I have zero regrets about this purchase.

I like this cover, but agree with the person who said it sits too low when horizontal or doesn't seem to tilt back far enough when used vertically. I suppose it's all in getting used to it. One thing I like is how it fits in my purse when I go somewhere -- nice and sleek. Yes, the hole in back is for the speaker, but I didn't know that when I first got mine. As for the so-called lanyard hole, the Nook HD for Dummies book says it is not meant to be used that way. Dangling it froma lanyard or belt loop could damage the screen. The hole is basically there so you recognize your Nook as the HD+. All in all a great cover.

I love my groovy cover! It is so easy to use. It is not bulky or heavy! I mean it is easy to slide in and out of your bag. I give it 5 stars. I thought at first I may not like it because of the thin cover but it does better than a bulky thick cover would do. It is so great! I would tell anyone to get it!

I love this cover, I especially love the automatic sleep and wake feature when you open and close it!

I was on the fence as to whether to give this cover two or three starts but ultimately decided on two stars. My first complaint is that the two positions that the stand allows don't really seem to work quite right. The upright position feels like it needs to be a little lower and the reclined position feels like it needs to be a little higher. The other problem I have with it is that the cover doesn't feel right in the hand when I'm trying to read with it, because of the way the front and back cover are hinged together. I will probably look to replace it sooner rather than later.

Fantastic. I love it! I love to carry my Nook around in my purse. I also do not like a purse that is TOO big. Naturally, I need a Nook case that protects and does not take up too much room in my purse. I searched high and low. I purchased my Nook HD+ when it was released in the fall. I just now got this groovy case (summer 2013). I have tried several other cases, only to be left disappointed. I have had this now for a couple of days and I am in LOVE!

I love this case so far. The look is great and it's so thin. I haven't used the portrait stand feature but it seems like it will work just fine. It does pick up a few fingerprints but that doesn't really bother me. No complaints thus far.

I like that the cover is light weight and keeps my Nook HD+ propped open. My biggest complaint is that there is no closure. I really like that in my Nook Color's cover, to keep it shut in my purse and to hold it open while reading.

No keyboard, doesn't fit HDMI TV adapter. The bottom edge space is wide enough to plug in the regular charge, but Barnes and Noble's own HDMI TV adapter. If you want to use the TV adapter for video watching, you'll have to either pop your tablet out of the plastic frame or turn it around so the frame blocks the volume buttons. Barnes an Noble should at least make the effort to ensure its own accessories are compatible with one another.
