The premier reference on cardiac catheterization is now in its thoroughly revised Seventh Edition, reflecting the rapid evolution and growing clinical use of interventional techniques. The completely revamped interventional section includes new material on treatment of pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, as well as on coronary atherectomy, thrombectomy, distal embolic protection devices, bare metal and drug-eluting stents, and percutaneous valve therapies. Other significantly revised chapters include pulmonary angiography, endomyocardial biopsy, and circulatory assist devices.

This edition's companion DVD features more than 100 digital cases, plus more than 20 animations showing the actions of various invasive and interventional devices.

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

Reviewer: Keith G Hickey, MD, BS (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This is the 7th edition in the 30-year history of this book on cardiac catheterization. The former structure has been retained, but the emphasis has been shifted from the use of the cardiac catheter as a diagnostic tool towards a therapeutic one, based on new interventional techniques. A DVD-ROM containing cases covering a broad range of findings accompanies the book.
Purpose: The authors have provided a comprehensive, balanced, and up-to-date resource in invasive and interventional cardiology. This book is all-inclusive and provides readers with valuable information in every imaginable aspect of cardiac catheterization.
Audience: It is intended to serve as a comprehensive educational resource for trainees and practitioners in invasive and interventional cardiology.
Features: The book is divided into eight sections, which are subdivided into chapters written by the various expert coauthors. Sections are devoted to general principles, basic techniques, hemodynamic principles, basic and special angiographic, catheter and interventional techniques, the evaluation of cardiac function, and profiles of specific disorders. The book also contains a table of contents of each of the DVD cases. As a bonus, the author has made the DVD cases transferable to personal computers for use in educational lectures.
Assessment: This book is the leader in the field. It is an essential component of the library of an invasive cardiologist.
Mirek Sochanski
This sixth edition of a monograph describing all aspects of the procedures performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory for the first time includes a CD-ROM, a much-needed supplement for a book that, for most part, deals with dynamic phenomena and procedures. The book is addressed to cardiology fellows and support staff with the objective to educate in methods and different techniques used to diagnose and treat a variety of cardiovascular diseases. It is the most comprehensive and still concise textbook covering this field. The authors are very modest to suggest that the target audience is fellows in cardiology and support staff. This is a must for every invasive, interventional cardiologist, not to mention every facility where these procedures are performed. The senior editors are world authorities on the subject and the contributing authors are of no lesser caliber. The book is divided into seven sections that are abundant with relevant information. Each chapter is well presented. Equal detail is used to describe routine procedures and rarely performed procedures, like brachial cutdown or apical puncture. To compare with previous editions, relevant subjects outlining complications of cardiac catheterization are included. Newer techniques -- puncture closure devices, intravascular ultrasound, and evaluation of myocardial flow -- have been added and expanded. New trends in practice of invasive cardiology are acknowledged by adding chapters on peripheral angiography and intervention, addressing a vascular part of our cardiovascular specialty. Previously excellent chapters on the transeptal approach and the profiles of specific disorders, among others, have been thoroughly enrichedand expanded. This is an excellent textbook which only gets better with each edition. It mirrors the direction of the ever-changing field of invasive and interventional cardiology thanks to the wonderful efforts of editors.
The first edition of this text was published 25 years ago as ; the fourth edition saw a name change to , and this sixth edition changes names again to recognize Dr. William Grossman's (U. of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine) pioneering efforts and continued contributions. Coverage includes general principles and basic techniques, hemodynamic principles, angiographic techniques, evaluation of cardiac function, special catheter techniques, interventional techniques, and profiles of specific disorders. Good Reference

I am a nurse new to the Cardiac Cath Lab. I was looking to gain more knowledge of the subject. This book is great as a stand alone text. I think I would enjoy to see a smaller heard cover edition made.
