Overview

Grow It, Cook It is the children's cookbook that starts with the seed of a good idea. More than a cookbook, this innovative book offers a fresh approach to healthy eating by getting children involved in food right from the start. Children will learn that when they eat a carrot, they're biting into a root; salads are made up of leaves; and berries are the fruit and seeds of plants, encouraging an early appreciation of food and its origins.

The recipes in the book take the homegrown fruits, vegetables, and herbs and use a variety of cooking methods and store-bought ingredients to transform them into truly homemade meals. All the "crops" can be grown in pots, so young chefs don't even need a large garden to enjoy Grow It, Cook It.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"The guide teaches children about healthy eating by taking the good habit to the source: the garden. Recipes incorporate the vegetables, fruits and herbs your child learns about into healthy dishes they can make with some help from an adult." – Tulsa World

My daughter (8yr) picked this out while searching for a cookbook. It is a wonderful tool to help your kids discover where food comes from and get them outside. Oddly enough it is also a good beginners gardening book. It gives start to finish time estimates for a variety of fruits and veggies that most people can grow regardless of the amount of space they have to devote to their garden.

Believe it or not my 6 year old daughter had her dad buy her this book. She and her dad are planning a vegetable garden and she plans to grow "my own ingredients for my own food mommy". It is nice to see her this excited about cooking and gardening!! We are all looking forward to tasty dishes made with our own home grown ingredients. A.
