The Budget

I highly recommend Growing Up Colt for football fans everywhere, but especially for those who follow the Browns' team. And I recommend the book for its parental principles. For anyone seeking to live a strong Christian faith, Growing Up Colt might just be the inspirational book a reader has been searching for.

— Marijane Troyer

From the Publisher

"Whether you like sports, football, or the University of Texas, Growing Up Colt is a great read—a behind-the-scenes look at the biggest milestones in the life of one of the game's bright young stars. But don’t let that fool you. This is more than a typical sports book, and its author is more than your average NFL quarterback. Colt McCoy is the real deal, a Christ-centered young man committed to living with integrity, pursuing excellence, and bringing glory to God. In this book, Colt and his father Brad invite you into their lives and share the key principles and big decision that have defined their family—things like high expectations, hard work, and doing what's right. A powerful tribute to Christ, family, and football, we highly recommend Growing Up Colt for all ages."

Alex and Brett Harris
Authors of Do Hard Things

"Colt and Brad McCoy have plenty to say about football, Texas, and family.  They have even more to say about faith.  What they have to say is worth hearing: it could change the way you parent your kids, love your spouse, and live your life."

 Max Lucado
 Pastor and bestselling author

"I love Colt McCoy’s football skills, but I also love his intangibles—his faith, his leadership, his commitment to the people around him. Now you can find out exactly how this Cleveland Browns quarterback went from a small Texas high school and reached the highest level of the NFL."

Hall of Fame Quarterback, Dallas Cowboys

    Inspirational and Informative--Great Father/Son Book!

I am a Cleveland Browns fan so when I heard our Quarterback is a Christian and wrote a book about his life, I wanted to read it. I was surprised to find that his dad wrote some of it as well. This was an interesting read because Colt and his dad share very personal experiences from Colt's childhood and also how his training growing up helped him to become the leader and the role model that he is today. Brad, his dad, shared four main principles of parenting while balancing discipline and love: 1. Prepare the kid for the path, not the path for the kid. 2. Prepare your children to do their best. 3. Prepare your children to be leaders. 4. Prepare your children for open and closed doors. I also thought the lessons Colt said he learned were very good, such as always finish what you start, treat everyone with respect, listen to advice from those more experienced than you and relax because "the hay is in the barn." It was nice to read about someone who walks with God and didn't make a lot of bad choices that messed up their life. I think the book balances his childhood training, football games, and his walk with the Lord well. I enjoyed learning so much about Colt through this book. He's definitely a leader with character and I am happy he is our Quarterback! I recommend it to parents, all Browns fans and anyone who is interested in football.

LOVED IT! A great read for all parents and kids 10+

It doesn't matter what college team you root for, because this book is just about raising rock-solid children in this crazy world. The book reads easily and allows the reader to experience child-rearing and character development from Brad's and Colt's perspective. If you want your children to become good citizens with positive attitudes and excellent work ethics, then this book is something for your whole family. **Caution - if your children do not yet have any concept of sex, this book does contain references to pornography, sex, and marital relations. It is handled tastefully, but may raise questions for your children.

If you love football, the Texas Longhorns, or the Cleveland Browns, this inspirational story will delight the sports fans in your home. Colt McCoy and his father, Brad, share their perspectives on key events that led to the success of Colt McCoy. From his early days of high school football, to his time playing as a Longhorn, to his current position with the Cleveland Browns, Colt gives readers a perspective on the personal challenges he faced, the people that inspired him, and his faith in God that helped lead him to where he is today. Bravo to Colt and his father for sharing their story. This book is a must read!
