Overview

In Growing Up With Loukoumi by Nick Katsoris, a lamb named Loukoumi (Greek for sweet ) struggles with what she wants to be when she grows up. She considers becoming a firefighter, a judge or a doctor. As she walks along, she encounters her friends including Gus the bear, Fistiki the cat, Dean the dog and Marika the monkey. Each friend explains to Loukoumi that she can be whatever her heart desires. If she wants to be a singing star, a policeman or even an Oscar winning actress, then she can do it! The key is that she must always believe in herself, stay positive and work hard, because if you believe in yourself your dreams will come true! The CD version of the book (included) features the voices of singing legend Gloria Gaynor, (Grammy Award winner for I Will Survive) Oscar-winning actress Olympia Dukakis, national CBS correspondent and MarketWatch anchor Alexis Christoforous, American Idol Heartthrob and Tony Nominee Constantine Maroulis of American Idol fame, and Guiding Light actor Frank Dicopoulos. Each voices a character that encourages Loukoumi to reach for her dreams, which is especially meaningful when being heard from such inspirational and successful adults. The package also includes an original song from Gloria Gaynor called, Believe.

What People are Saying About This

Olympia Dukakis
I think it's very important for children to hear and know that there are grown-ups who believe that if you work hard and strive for something, it's possible to have your dreams come true. Growing Up with Loukoumi is the sweetest book and my grandchildren responded to it very strongly. The messages of the book are worth saying.
Constantine Maroulis
I think more and more young parents are really being even more supportive of their kids taking risks and going after their dreams and being very supportive. I'm so excited about this awesome project!
Alexis Christoforous
To be successful in anything you have to believe in yourself. You have to believe that it's possible, that anything's possible. From a very young age, we need to plant the seed in our young people that if they have faith and believe that the impossible is possible, then their dreams can come true.
Gloria Gaynor
I feel wonderful about the opportunity to do something that I know is going to help young people and children realize their dreams.

A wonderful lesson for kids - nothing is better than teaching them to follow their dreams and this book is a true gem. Excellent message, great CD narrations and an inspirational song by Gloria "I Will Survive" Gaynor.

My 5 year old son loves this book, which teaches kids that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up. When people ask him what he wants to be when he's older he says an astronaut, and then he repeats the message Loukoumi the lamb hears from her friends, 'Work real hard and don't get blue, Believe in yourself and dreams come true!' The lamb is adorable and we listen to the CD in the car. We all love the Gloria Gaynor song on the CD! We have the first Loukoumi book too - it was very helpful for us because my son used to try to wander away when we were in public and the book taught him how important it was to stay close to me. We can't wait for another Loukoumi book!

Being a child in a rigid family structure i was pushed towards doing a job based on what my parents wanted. This book helps teach kids to follow their dreams and realize that this world is open for them. The narrative cd makes this story come alive for the kids and i recommend this for anyone with young children.
