Guardians, Angels and Demons, Oh My! Guardians, angels and demo

Guardians, Angels and Demons, Oh My!

Guardians, angels and demons, oh my!

I love stories that deal with the concept of good and evil...in the literal sense. Are demons real? Are angels real? Are we humans caught somewhere between the two fighting factions?

L.J. Kentowski has created a world in which all of these questions are answered. For the most part, I was intrigued. How could Cassie Cosgrove, a young woman chosen to be a guardian, protect humanity with such limited life experience?

And I think, therein, lies my biggest problem with the plot. Cassie wasn't a strong enough protagonist to fill a pair of world-saving shoes. Her hormones and personal angst overshadowed much of her actions (and reactions). I tried not to wish she'd just grow up.

The idea was strong enough to keep me turning the pages. Ms. Kentowski's voice helped pull me along. I think late teeners and youngish adults will love Guardians of Fate!

    Intense, Thrilling Ride

At the age of 16 Cassandra Cosgrove found out she was a Guardian of Fate, which is a person who has visions of apparent deaths of humans caused by the shadows, she is then to go to the person's aid and save them. Guardians are human foot soldiers for heaven, in a sense, to ward off the shadows from completing their mission and bring the unsuspecting soul to Hell. In her early 20s she has a new vision and something just doesn't seem right about it, Cassie still goes to save the woman in her dreams, but something goes wrong, the vision is no longer the reality, and a human still dies. What Cassie doesn't realize is that this singular event then spirals into a whole string of tragic and life altering events, that brings her to question that if she is the Guardian of Fate for so many souls, then who holds her fate? Can she? These new events also clash with dreams of a lovely but scarey man. The man shes dreamed about for years has now come into her life, but she can't stand him even if he is the most gorgeous man she has ever seen, but he seems to be glued to her. When she finally meets the man from her dreams, another man enters her life, and he seems absolutely perfect. This turns into an intense love triangle, that starts to seem like it is directly corresponding to the new events that are happening. Cassie is thrown into a crazy week that turns her entire world upside down with the information she learns and what happens to her.

Kentowski has created a very fun and intriguing new paranormal world, which is quite a thrilling, nonstop ride. There are crazy twists and turns, that make you unsure of who to trust or know what is the truth. Since the characters hid so much from each other in the book, including Cassie from people who could help her, it frustrated me a lot, which is the reason for 4 stars from me. Other wise it was a great read, and a quick one considering the 300 pages. Along with an intense journey Kentowski added some spicy love scenes. So if you're looking for a thrilling story with some sexy romance, this is a great choice.

This book reminded me again why paranormal romance is my favorit

This book reminded me again why paranormal romance is my favorite genre! This book was so good, and I enjoyed it a great deal. I felt immediately drawn into the storyline and held captive until I got to the very last page of the book. And for a story to do that for me, well it used to be reserved for my favorite author, Sherrilyn Kenyon, but I have a feeling that LJ Kenowski might be taking that spot.

Cassie's character was great. She is the type of heroine that needs to be featured in all books, not just paranormal. Authors should aspire to write their characters like LJ does hers. Fabulous! Anyway, Cassie portrayed herself as a strong, independant character throughout the book. Cassie held her own, even when faced with difficult situations (and can I say that I would love to be faced with a certain situation by the name of Hunter any day!!)

The male lead is to die for!! Hunter has to be one of the sexiest characters I have come across lately. I enjoyed his character, and the struggles he faces in this book. A blogger friend of mine is always talking about the fictional guy characters that she wants to stockpile in her basement....well Hunter would be the one I choose, for sure!

This book is unique, or at least I have never read anything like it. Cassie saves souls from basically spending an eternity in hell. This book takes us on her journey through discovering some tough stuff about herself and the ones that she loves. The rollercoaster of a ride this book takes the reader on is exhilerating, breathtaking, and just plain enjoyable!

Bottom line, read this book. It's a great paranormal romance book, and just a great book in general! She has made a fan out of me, and I will be reading anything she brings out in the future! The second book in this series: Seeker of Fate, is due out December of 2012! :)

    B- rating....

    My Review:
This is definitely one of those books where you spend a lot of the book trying to figure out what the heck is going on and who exactly is the good guy and who is the bad guy. That alone kept me reading this book for a long time....I couldn't figure out what was going on and was definitely intrigued.

On her 16th birthday, Cassie found out that she's a Guardian of Fate. She can see when people are about to wrongly die and can change that fate. But suddenly her visions are changing and that corresponds with the arrival of two very intriguing men in her life...Caleb and Hunter. It's obvious from the very beginning that there is more to these guys than meets the eye, especially since Cassie has been seeing visions of Hunter for years. It just takes a long time to figure out exactly what their story is. As the reader, I found that both intriguing and frustrating. Honestly, if I hadn't been reading this book for review, I probably would have DNF'ed it because I had a moment where I got so impatient with that fact. I wanted to get to the real story...not just the set-up of it.

And honestly, the real story is pretty good, although very complex. LOL...and this is where the review becomes difficult to write because if I tell you about the real story, then I will be giving away huge spoilers in the book. Just know that nothing is as it seems and once it all played out, I liked where the story went. I completely ADORED the romantic story line...it totally made the book for me. I loved the depth of feeling and emotion between the two and although it happened pretty quickly, it worked for me.

The twist at the end...shocking!! I have no idea where the author is going, but I have a feeling it's going to get better.

I received a complementary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The ending will have you begging for the next book in this exciting new series.

If you love Paranormal Romance/Fantasy novels-- I highly recommend Guardians of Fate!! I hope you'll love it as much as I did!!!

Book Synopsis Fear of death is all too common. Visions of it

    Book Synopsis

Fear of death is all too common. Visions of it chill the bones and skip heartbeats. Seeing it coming and knowing only you can rescue the soul of the victim from the fiery bowels of hell…that’s downright life-altering.

Cassandra Cosgrove’s life was altered at the age of sixteen when she found out that it was her responsibility to save the lives, and ultimately the souls, of innocent victims targeted by Hell’s demons. As impossible as it seemed at first, she was able to live a fairly normal life, while secretly fulfilling her obligation as a Guardian of Fate.

But years later Fate has its own plan when her visions begin drastically changing at the same time two mysterious men appear in her life. Cassandra suddenly finds herself caught in a battle between good and evil, with her own soul on the line. When it seems everyone in her life has a secret they’ve been hiding from her, who can she trust to be the Guardian of her Fate?

    My Thoughts

This book is the author's debut novel and is full of secrets, lies, strong emotions, complicated characters and battles between good and evil. Not only is it action oriented but the whole time you are reading the story will keep your full attention so you do not miss what happens next! The romance that adds edgy spice is a secondary story but in no way detracts from what Cassandra has to face while coming to grips with who and exactly what she really is.
While this is only the beginning of a series it is one that paranormal fans will want more of, especially since the ending of this story leaves so many questions still unanswered for Cassandra.

[Personal copy bought by me to read when author had it on sale for 99 cents on Amazon.]
