Editorial Reviews

David Hartwell
Mr. Eddings's prose is competent but undistinguished, and his characterization is relatively flat; one cannot have too much growth and change if the characters may have to last for many more volumes in rigid roles. The writer's appeal appears to reside in a cavalcade of incidents whose only point seems to be moral instruction, often with wisecracks - scenes either provide overt examples of good and bad behavior or show and tell how to behave under specific circumstances.... This book is as solid as a marshmallow, and as nourishing, attenuated and inflated to unnatural size.

    I love these books

Well, I finished the Belgariad a while ago and I LOVED the characters and the whole story line, so when I found out about these I bought them right away. Admittedly, I enjoyed the Belgariad more. But when you're with the same characters for 10 whole books, they're bound to change. I enjoyed seeing the characters as they grew up, but some things that seemed to be major parts of their personalities seemed to be lacking. Silk didn't steal nearly as much, there weren't so many battles, Polgara didn't nag so much (mainly Belgarath) and lost some of her venom, etc. They were little things I really missed. Not to mention that during the middle it got pretty slow. I did, however, enjoy that a lot of the loose ends got tied up, such as Zakath and also Poledra. There were things I did and didn't like, but the next time I read the books these will be included.

    Eddings Rules

The Belgariad and Malloreon series of ten books is the best tale I've read in a long time. I couldn't put them down until I read all of them. Eddings did a brilliant job with his characterizations. I must say, when I finished the final pages of The Seeress of Kell, I have never felt as much sadness in the knowledge that the story was over, finished. I also read Belgarath The Sorcerer and Polgara The Sorceress and if you love those characters, those two books give much insight into what their lives were like before Garion came along. I know I will read them all again and recommend them highly!

    Nice easy, interesting read

I enjoy reading all Eddings books because of the interesting, colorful characters and the added humor along the way. Started reading fantasy at the suggestion of my 16 year old son, who recommended Harry Potter.

    Turn back now!

I read the Belgariad, and I enjoyed it. It was new, and the characters had some challenges to face. I would reccomend that to anyone. However, if you have read that and are just starting on the Mallorean, turn around and run the other way. The characters (Even my favorite of all time, Silk) become boring, predictable, and thoroughly shallow, plus there are just too many of them. There are numerous places where characters actually refer to the similarities between this advenure and the events in the Belgariad. It makes me cringe. I read through the fourth volume and by that time it had become a chore. By then, I had no interest in even trying to read the short, conclusive novel 'Seeress of Kell' Just the thought of it made me queasy. Eddings has written better, so to avoid disappointment, don't even start this series.

One Series was enough. He should have moved on.

Read the Elenium; it is better. Better, in truth, than the Belgariad. Still, the Malloreon isn't bad, per se. Simply not as good. If you're a big Eddings fan, and it will simply kill you not to finish the Series... well, finish it. It's your time and money, after all.

Great Start to an Already Likable Story

This is a wondorous starting to an grand adventure that takes off where The Belgariad Leaves. With the whole gang of Lovable Characters back for another bout of Trouble, Belgarion, Belgarath, Barak, Polgara, Durnik, Errand, Silk and more.. truly excellent.....

This was a riviting story with magical page turning results. I had never even picked up a fantasy book before my roomate talked me into this one, now I am hooked. I have read this one and ate up the other four in the series. Thank you David Eddings for bringing me this world to lose myself in.

This book is a must have! For any self respecting reader N.Y. Times

This novel will have you griping to your seat with every page you turn. You will have to stop your self and ask your self: who am I? At one point I had to ask my self: where am I.

Not as good as the rest

This book isn't as good the book Enchanter's End Game , but it's a start for a new series.
