Overview

Little readers can love the Nutbrown Hares from spring to summer to fall to winter—and back—with this gorgeous collection of four sweet stories.

Little Nutbrown Hare has lots of questions when growing things start to sprout in the spring—and wonders what he will turn into one day. By summer, he notices colors everywhere, but there’s one that he’s sure he likes best. The autumn wind inspires hiding and chasing—and a funny surprise for Big Nutbrown Hare. And when wintertime comes, playing "I Spy" games is especially fun in the snow. These simple, endearing tales starring two of the world’s most beloved characters are perfect for sharing with little hares any time of year.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melissa Rife
Using the classic children's book with the same name as a base, this storybook contains four tales using the same two characters of Little Nutbrown Hare and his dad Big Nutbrown Hare. Each story coordinates with one of the four seasons and centers on a different area of learning. Spring deals with the grown-up and baby versions of different animals. Summer talks about all the different colors that the hares see around them. In the fall, Big Nutbrown Hare is chased by a "monster" that is really just Little Nutbrown Hare using his imagination. In the winter, the two hares look at what things belong together, such as a spider and its web. While the original book was centered blatantly around the love between parent and child, here it is displayed in a more subtle manner. Each tale ends with a declaration of the love between the two, but the stories center on the exploration of the world around them. For some readers, this makes the book less cheesy and mooshy than the original. It is filled with teachable moments and opportunities for the reader to learn about its own surroundings. The illustrations are simple but beautiful and show definite differences per season. I would highly recommend this book as a story book for toddlers and small children alike. Reviewer: Melissa Rife

This is the ultimate in the Guess How Much I Love You series. It takes Big Nutbrown Hare and Little Nutbrown Hare and has them experience the four seasons and what happens during these seasons. I am an avid fan of all these books. You can get each season individually but I found this one and just had to have it. As it turns out, I read it to my grandson's class at school for reading month. It is a wonderful story about a Dad and his Son and because there are lots of books about Mothers and Sons and not many about the Father/Son relationship, it makes this book special. Read and enjoy. It is for all ages.

I love these books! I have no complaints other than I wish I had known that this book included: WHEN I AM BIG, COLORS, LETS PLAY, and A SURPRISE. I didnt realize that those books were the Four Seasons... But the extra copies I bought made great baby gifts! So not a huge deal but if you love the stories but dont want to buy all four books, then this is your deal!
