New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels has captivated readers worldwide with her heart-stirring stories of love and family, friendship and renewal. With Listen to Your Heart, she spins the unforgettable tale of a young woman who might be falling for a match made in heaven...

Listen To Your Heart

With her beloved mother gone, her twin sister about to be married, and no hint of Mr. Right on the horizon, Josie Dupré is lonesome. Luckily, she has her booming New Orleans catering business to keep her busy, and her fluffy white dog, Rosie, to keep her company...until an obnoxious Boxer brazenly captures Rosie's undying devotion. Even worse, the budding romance puts Josie in close proximity to the dog's owner-sexy, love 'em and leave 'em Cajun playboy, Paul Brouillette.

Paul's all for l'amour, but ever since he came into Josie's life, strange things have been happening. She hears music that isn't there, and she smells her mother's favorite cologne in an empty room. Maybe her mom's trying to send her a message...something about finding love where you least expect it...and listening to your heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
The latest by Michaels (Celebration) is an eventful tale of sisterly love and simmering obsession. When their parents die suddenly under mysterious circumstances, five-year-old Abby Evans and her six-year-old sister, Mallory, are adopted by their dad's friend Donovan Mitchell and his new wife. Troubled Mallory is sent off to an institution and banished from the now-prosperous Mitchell family for more than a decade. Still missing her sister, Abby suffers yet another loss when her boyfriend, Connor, dies suddenly. The sisters are finally reunited in their early 20s, and Abby's life seems complete once again, with a wonderful new man, an opulent house and an instantly successful writing career. Trouble soon arises, however, when Mallory becomes convinced that their parents, along with Connor and several others, were actually murdered--and that Donovan Mitchell is the culprit. Abby bases her newest novel on that idea, and the two young women hunt for the clues they hope will roound out the story and clarify their complex past. The evidence is inconclusive until Abby and Mallory throw a lavish book-completion party, at which a violent encounter leads to the truth. Although the plotting is marred by coincidences, Michaels has crafted a smoothly written, dramatic tale full of incident and emotion. (Aug.) Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
Library Journal
Born with a port wine stain that obscures half her face, Abby Mitchell is dogged by tragedy: her parents die, she is separated from her only sister, a surgical procedure to help her face fails, and her boyfriend croaks. Through all of this horror, she behaves like a saint and is eventually reunited with her sister, the so-called "bad seed." As it turns out, Mallory isn't all that bad, but she does have some disturbing revelations concerning the deaths that follow Abby around. When the sisters throw a fancy party to lure a murderer into the open, they get more than they bargained for. While some of the plot elements in this story are laughable (such as the repeated lack of autopsies on people dying under questionable circumstances) and the whining narration by Jen Taylor irritating, it's difficult to stop listening until the absolute end. Michaels's (Yesterday) message is that happiness often comes with a high price and everything does not always turn out well...something seldom seen in romances. A marginal purchase. Meet the Author

Fern Michaels
Fern Michaels
With over than sixty million copies of her books sold around the world, New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels pens romance after epic romance, each filled with all the drama and heartbreak her loyal fans can handle.

Biography

Born Mary Ruth Kuczkir in Hastings, Pennsylvania, Fern Michaels was married and the mother of five before she embarked on her long, successful writing career – a career that began with something midway between a challenge and a command. When her youngest child went off to kindergarten, Michaels's husband imperiously ordered her (in just so many words) to get off her ass and get a job. Long years in the domestic trenches had left her short on marketable skills, so she decided trade off her lifelong love of reading and write a book. Just like that. The domineering, unsupportive husband is history. And Michaels has gone on to pen bestselling romance after bestselling romance. Just like that..

With typical modesty, Michaels does not claim to be a great writer; however, she admits proudly to being a born storyteller. Her bulging bookshelf proves she is all over the map, producing with equal facility hot historicals, lighthearted contemporary capers, adrenaline-laced thrillers, and heartwarming tales of family and friendship. She is especially adept at writing stories about women who prevail in hard times – a reflection, perhaps, of her own struggles in her marriage and early career.

Raised to believe that the fortunate in life have an obligation to give back, Michaels devotes a lot of time to philanthropic concerns. She has established a foundation that grants four-year scholarships to needy students and has set up pre-schools and daycare centers for single mothers. She is also an avid animal lover and has been known to own as many as five dogs at a time.

In 1993, Michaels picked up stakes and moved from her home in New Jersey to a 300-year-old plantation house in Charleston, South Carolina. She and the dogs share the house amicably with a friendly ghost whom Fern has dubbed Mary Margaret. In addition to stopping clocks and moving pillows from room to room, Mary Margaret has been known to occasionally leave flowers on Michaels's nightstand!

Good To Know

Michaels confesses in our interview: "I'm a junk food junkie and a chocoholic. My desk drawers have more junk food in them than paper and pens. I chomp and chew all day long. At night I get up and eat Marshmallow Fluff right out of the jar. In between eating, I write."

Her first "sort of, kind of job" was in market research. Michaels recounts the gig's low-point in our interview: "I had a partner and we were testing a new pressurized drain cleaner. All you had to do was put this can in the drain, squeeze and supposedly the drain would open right up. It did, all right.

"The whole wall collapsed, and stuff that was in there for a hundred years flew everywhere. The lady didn't tell us the drain backed up to her kitchen drain and disposal. The company didn't care that we smelled like a sewer or that our clothes were ruined. The lady got a new bathroom, and we both got fired."

Michaels reveals some of her sources of inspiration: "Inspiration comes from everywhere. The title for Finders Keepers came from a cartoon with two chipmunks that my grandson was watching. I had a title but no story. I finally came up with one to fit that wonderful title.

"Names for characters sometime come from television. I had a character named Metaxis which is odd to begin with. There is a news anchor on T.V. who has that same last name. Sometimes it will just be a word someone says in passing, something I read or saw. There's no rhyme or reason to it. It's almost like, okay, I need something here, stay alert and it will happen."

    Fast-paced, good reading

This is an easy to read, engaging story. The story-within-a-story is interesting. The mystery is not very hard to solve. However, the plot twists are very well orchestrated, causing the reader to occasionally second-guess who the villain is. It was really hard to put the book down. I would definitely recommend it to others.

    Another winner

I love her style of writing. I learned some interesting things regarding the Vietnam War and never really thought much about the nurses who were there to help the wounded and what they really had to go through. This was an eye opener, particularly with what is happening in the world today.

    exciting relationship drama

When Abby Evans Mitchell and Mallory Evans were little children, her father informed their mother that he was leaving her. Before he could leave, his wife apparently died from a heart attack. Feeling distraught, he killed himself from the guilt of ¿killing¿ his wife. His best friend ¿Uncle¿ Donovan marries his girl friend Carol and they adopt the two-orphaned stepsisters. They move from New Jersey to Charleston. However, Mallory fails to adapt, behaving very poorly. Based on Carol's insistence, Donovan exiles Mallory to a cold institution.
Years later Abby falls in love in college to a young man who ignores the port wine colored facial birthmark that mars her visage and returns her feelings. Carol rejects Abby¿s boy friend, who suddenly dies from a heart attack. Abby graduates and begins a career as a mystery writer. She and Mallory reconcile and share her home. However, other people die and Mallory tells Abby that she thinks Donovan killed their parents. As they work together on Abby¿s new book based on their parents¿ deaths, someone tries to kill both of them.
THE GUEST LIST is an exciting relationship drama with a deadly mystery at its core. The story line is fast-paced and the characters are fully developed so that the identity of the killer remains in plain sight yet difficult to see past the mask that hides the psychopathic behavior. Fern Michaels, author of bestsellers such as FINDERS KEEPERS and YESTERDAY, has written another triumphant tale that will exhilarate fans of romantic suspense.
Harriet Klausner

    A Very Good Book

This is a good book, with a lot of twists and turns . It is sad that the little girls are left alone and adopted, and sadder still when they are separated, but wonderful when they are reunited. The plot moves right along and keeps your interest for sure.

    Fast reading, keeps you guessing

Right from the beginning the story gets you caught up in the mystery of the girl's parent's death and it moves along throughout. The characters are wonderful with very interesting relationships. You don't want to put it down until you find out who the murderer is. Very enjoyable!

    Good to the end!

Abby was so lucky to live with her Uncle Donovan and his new wife, Carol, after her own parents died suddenly and unexpectedly. And even though they sent her only sister away, it was for her own protection, was'nt it? As Abby grows up, she has everything a girl could want. But wait, how close should a stepmother be after you become of age, and is it smothering Abby in her search for happiness? If she tries to follow her own dreams, is there happiness or disaster ahead in her life? And can she trust her sister again after all these years?
