Overview

If you’ve been searching for a great textbook for that beginning astronomy course or home school program, this one is perfect for you. Or, if you are a newbie to the subject of astronomy, and just want to learn the basics on your own, this is a great place to begin.

This astronomy textbook was designed for beginning astronomy courses, home school or self-instruction. It teaches basic astronomy while explaining how it applies to everyday life experiences. The 12 chapters are written in an easy-to-understand style that should be especially beneficial to teachers that are new to teaching astronomy or to home school instructors and individuals with limited science background. The ebook version contains over 240 pages and over 100 illustrations and photographs.

Also included are instructions for printing and constructing planispheres, rotating maps that can be used to aid the student in the learning process. Map templates are obtained at the A Guide to Everyday Astronomy web site (www.konvolinkamedia.com) or by emailing the author for high resolution PDF copies.

While reading the text, the student will be directed to complete the included 17 hands-on planisphere exercises that will aid the understanding of the subject content and increase interest. The text also contains a pre-test, chapter review questions and sample chapter tests. Most chapters begin with a mini-observation lesson.

This text is best used in conjunction with the Peterson Field Guide STARS AND PLANETS. Using this reference in conjunction with the text allows the instructor and the student to decide the scale of depth that is desired. The text also references various web sites so internet access is suggested. Obtaining the free planisphere templates is necessary for successful completion of the course.
