Editorial Reviews
From The Critics
Reviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP(Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)Description: Oriented to primary care clinicians in the United Kingdom, this book is a combination of guidelines and patient education handouts. It was last updated in 1997.
Purpose: In this guide, a primary care practitioner presents his practice habits with the patient education materials that he uses. This is useful in a limited capacity, but lacks the academic rigor to ensure that the guidelines have positive outcomes, the ultimate purpose of guidelines. Assuming the author merely wishes to impart his experience, it is successful.
Audience: Focused on National Health System general practitioners, the book is written by an experienced practitioner.
Features: The patient education figures are quite helpful and the references are current, but by no means comprehensive. The drug therapy tables are somewhat limited.
Assessment: This interesting but rudimentary book of guidelines does have some utility for beginning practitioners.
