A comprehensive guide to project management

Volunteer committees at the Project Management Institute (PMI) created this guide to the processes involved in managing projects. Communication among clients, the project team and vendors is crucial to project management, so the book establishes a common vocabulary and a standard way of discussing a project. The book focuses on going from step to step with reliable coordination and smooth communication. Newcomers will find it helpful as they become conversant in the way professionals view and discuss project management. And, given that this is a standard work in the field, professionals are likely to regard it already as a reliable reference, including the useful process checklist. getAbstract applauds this manual's solid utility for its targeted audience. It is even quite readable, though it is directed only to insiders.

Great book but a little to formal

This book is good but to many task and to formal. I wish some of this stuff was written in laymen terms. Overall i thought it was great book and a great learning tool.

You Need to read this to pass the PMP.

I suggest you study some other book on Project Management first (I used Rita Mulcahey's PMP Exam Prep), as this book would be impossible to comprehend without prior understanding of the subject. Then read this book a couple of times. You will do much better on the PMP if you do.

    I Also Recommend:

An update in 2009 from the 1996 first edition

You have to have this to pass the current PMP exam certification.
It has definition changes, some change in philosophy, and more detail in the analytical, numbers computations. There are many good books on the subject, this is the entire 'Bible' of project management as it is interpreted today.

    Use this for any Project

I found this to be cheaper than the PMI site and the book is very resourceful. Well worth the sale price (free shipping too) of $38.57 and serves as a resourceful tool for projects.

Whether you are engaged in domestic or international tasks, I encourage you to use this book as a reference guide from womb to tomb of your projects.

    Best Luck,

    An honest review
