Irene C. Fountas, a professor in the School of Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been a classroom teacher, language arts specialist, and consultant in school districts across the nation and abroad.     OUTSTANDING

    Very complete and informative. My school district recommends this book for every 3-6th grade teacher! Great for both new teachers and established teachers.

    Great for Diverse skill levels

    This book is very complete. It lays out a reading and writing program, with step by step directions on building each element. It has guided reading techniques for upper graders. It is very thorough in teaching the skills you need to impliment the program. I love it!

    I Also Recommend:

    One of the Best

    This book is very comprehensive...a bit pricey, but tons of sample conversations of direct, explicit, overt teaching that is required for learning. The closest thing I have seen for a "how to" language arts program. 6th grade may be a stretch, but definitely 3-5.

    Guiding Readers and Writers by Fountas and Pinnell has been very useful in our elementary schools in setting up guided reading programs.

    The book Guiding Readers and Writers by Fountas and Pinnell is being used in many elementary schools to guide teachers in setting up a guided reading program in their classrooms. It has been very useful with suggested day to day lesson plans. There are also many useful items in the appendix that can be made into overheads or charts for students' own reading journals. I would recommend this book for teachers who want to set up a new way to teach reading in their classrooms.

    Helping Out the Most

    This book is such a teaching asset for all classrooms no matter what type of school you teach in! It is filled with examples and indepth descriptions of how this can work in your classroom!
