Overview

All it would take is one sneeze. Your DNA would be all over this book. That's right. Your spit has DNA in it. So does your skin. And your blood.

That's important to police because everyone's DNA is different. With the right equipment, detectives can match a person with some blood left at a crime scene. They've put murderers in jail that way. They've also freed innocent people.

Want to know more? Get some evidence about the following:

  • how almost everything about you is in your DNA;
  • how investigators identified some criminals by the DNA they drooled on their hamburgers;
  • how a cat's DNA sent a man to prison for murder;
  • and whether you might have the right stuff to become a DNA specialist.

Warning: In this book, investigators look for DNA in some disgusting places. They can find it in bloodstains. They get it from chewed-up food and pulled-out hair. There is also plenty of DNA in dead bodies. So...read at your own risk.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Gr 4-8
These titles introduce the science that is used to solve crimes. Through colorful illustrations, vocabulary definitions, and extra information in page insets, readers are taken behind the scenes of actual investigations. They become the detectives as crimes are presented, questions are asked, the gathered evidence is analyzed, and conclusions are drawn. DNA evidence, fingerprints, and forensic artists all come into the picture. Each book also has a help-wanted spread that gives requirements for and explains aspects of a career related to the topic: fingerprint analyst, forensic artist, and DNA scientist. This series is similar in scope to the "Forensics, The Science of Crime Solving" series (Mason Crest) but it is on an easier reading level. Concise and interesting introductions to solving crimes through forensic science.
