Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Brief chapters, unique photographs, and helpful illustrations show a variety of different rodents in this informational book. The illustrations are insightful, showing internal anatomy, for example. They also provide a glimpse into the homes of some rodents, such as the amazing underground homes of prairie dogs and the architecture of beavers' dams. Because of the diverse nature of this book, the title is somewhat misleading; guinea pigs do not have much more coverage than others, and it really provides a broad overview of rodents in general. The special teeth and food habits are just a couple of the many topics covered. This book would be a great addition to a biology classroom because of its informative nature. Included is a special section of hints and signs to help readers find rodents in the wild. This title is part of the "What Kind of Animal Is It?" series. It contains a table of contents and an index. 2006, Crabtree Publishing Company, and Ages 7 to 10.
